I've seen how to make a new key work but I don't know a couple of things about keys. Do they have to be 'cut'? I had never seen keys like this and I am wondering who does such work. Or are they all the same, on a year by year basis or something. I cant imagine any or may dealers would. Then is there any source of keys besides dealers Local dealer says $122, Sick but I always knew this was coming because my bike cane with only 1 key. I do have the code however.

There is a 5 digit code written in my manual. It isn't the diagnostic code. Would that be the key code? This bike had gone through auction and the owner is lost in the mists of time.

Well, hope that it is, because the cost to reset the code on the dash is costly and timely via Carmo in the Netherlands.

If the key code is 5 digits not 4 I am sure it will be. I have to have the key made by the code

You could try changing your code with the existing key and the new key using this number. That will confirm whether it's the key code or not.

That may be what Guzzi refers to as the "user code". Similar to a key code as that is the code you have to enter if the key isn't recognized, or to add keys, or to change the user code.

Embarrassingly I have been trying for 4 weeks to get my new key to work. I got an Aprilla key and had it cut.

There is no option on in my menu for 'change key'. There is only 'change the code' and 'code recovery'.

Inserting the new key right after the old key, or at any time, brings up the enter the code routine. Which I do. The bike then starts but the screen displays the SERVICE message, after which nothing done on the select button works. Neither left right or press on the button effects the display and SERVICE remains.

If the new key is then removed and inserted again, it asks for the code again, in an endless loop.

The old key continues to work fine.

Look for Change Key in the Diagnostics part. You will need the service code to get to diagnostics, See https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/resources/breva-1100-general-service-manual.24/ Yes it is a Breva manual, but covers the 5AM ECU bikes.
