Florida Riders

Im in Jacksonville just moved here too. Bought my '14 brand new in december

Google map: Olustee. On 90 west of Jax. Little store there at flashing light would be a good spot to meet, can show you some roads thru National Forest land & south of there. At some point if you want to do a longer ride I have a favorite 300 mile run that is a "pack your lunch we only stop for gas" ride. Quite fun with decent amount of curves & long enuf straights to stretch out a bit if you like.

Tires are bald on the Griso so I've been riding the Victory last few weeks. This past Sunday put just a touch over 450 miles on her & only saw two other bikes. I think I am in undiscovered territory where other riders are concerned.

A lot of my riding could be described as huge figure 8's with a snake wrapping around main high ways. There are so many beautiful roads from Lake City going west especially around Madison to Monticello & up into Georgia. Somehow I ended up south of Tallahassee but did not have to go into the city to escape I just kept taking roads east then north & came out about 10 miles west of Monticello.

I don't have GPS or a smart phone & usually don't carry maps,
I always start going west in the morning so the sun is behind me & work my way west by going north west then south west and repeating this until the sun is in front then I turn & head back east. When the days get short sometimes I will jump onto an Interstate or ride a major hi-way home. I do like to look at google-maps to see where I went.

I guess the biggest reason most don't ride here is there are no bars or restaurants along the way. I told a rider I met at breakfast one day about a road that cut thru the Osceola National Forest & ended up in Ga. A week or so later we met up again & he kept saying " But there's nothing out there" & I kept saying "That's the point, no trucks or cars, good road, some nice curves".
He likes riding with groups & 6 miles of stop & go city is OK by him as long as there is a destination.

Many of the roads I ride are narrow & kinda twisty or long sweepers thru open fields & farm land, most all in good repair altho I do hit some that are rough & some turn into dirt or dead end. We had a lot of wind on Saturday & Sunday so there was a fair amount of debris along the shoulders.

Had "a moment" coming up to a right curve & there was "something" in my lane. I was moving along at a brisk pace so I let off the throttle, started squeezing the front, down shifted put on a little rear brake & realized I was not going to stop in time. I had to go around by going into the other lane & realized it was a pretty tight curve with railroad tracks! Ohhhh...... but we made it.

There have been a lot of wild turkeys out this year more than I ever remember. Buzzards, man do we have buzzards & they won't move out of the way until the last minute. They are nasty & if they try to fly but get scared they will purge from both ends to gain altitude, you have never smelled anything like it. Always see deer mostly in the fields but sometimes grazing the road side, hawks, split tail kites sometimes an eagle or osprey. I have had fox, rabbit, racoon, armadillo, wild hog, dog, cat & squirrel & once a black bear cross the road & gator & turtle.

Well this turned out to be quite the ramble didn't it?

Clermont, Just west of Orlando.

Saw a Griso while out flogging my Sprint..... so there's at least 2 Griso's around here now
