Go easy on me (yeah right!) as this is my first post. :)

I've just purchased a Stelvio 1200 (2009). A lot of the bolts are rusty, rather than remove each one, clean and put back I was just going to replace them. I was just going to take them out, measure and order online etc... The question is, is there anywhere that does these specifically for the Stelvio 1200 or am I ok to just order replacements from anywhere? Would be much easier if someone did a kind of kit that had all correct bolts in!

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm at work and trying to type fast. :D

Hi XP,

Welcome. Before you start replacing everything, may be try a dose (or two) of S100 cleaner? I've done this numerous times on used/corroded/dirty fasteners, and am always amazed at the results. Expensive cleaner, but doesn't hurt the surrounding cases.

You're almost always better off cleaning up the original bolts than trying to replace them all. Getting exactly the right sizes, shapes, and grades per the manufacturer's spec is often quite difficult unless you go to the dealer and order each one. I use original hardware whenever possible: the bike looks better and is to spec in its functionality.

Thanks for the replies, I have ordered some packs of new bolts (they'll come in handy for other jobs anyway) but my first job will be to try and clean original parts and only replace if totally gone.

Bolts are not bolts. Different bolts on your motorcycle are made to different strengths from shearing and breakage, and many are specific sizes with tapered shafts and/or specific non-tread areas. I would strongly advise you to be very careful about just which bolts you start swapping out. Most certainly, any bolt in the front suspension or brakes, is not just a simple bolt.
