I use a home-made spring puller to stretch springs. Looks a bit like a hay-bale hook, only smaller and longer. have the bike on the sidestand when dealing with the springs because then they are in a less stretched state.
Powder coating parts is the easy route but not necessarily the best...
Last time I saw a BMW clutch it was like a car's one, so no rattle. The Guzzi clutch has three plates rattling around when disingaged. To love a Guzzi you need to love that clutch rattle. I never really liked it, nor the looks and comments from those in the know.
That is every day for me! For the past eight months I've been learning a lot about air rifles; how to use them, dismantle them and tune them. I'm amazed at how crudely they're made and assembled. They remind me of older Guzzis - as they used to say, "If you want a good one, buy it new and...
Probably everyone knows this by now but just in case - the left side hose nipple serves the filler cap drain and the right side one the tank breather. Viewed looking forwards of course. Care needs to be taken when refitting a removed tank that the breather hose isn't trapped between the tank...

3/4 litre missing is a lot better than 2 litres! But it still shows an ignorant or careless previous owner, not to mention a less than impressive dealer. Surely a competent dealer wouldn't buy-in a bike with a low oil level.
Now I'm no expert on Grisos, but I understand they have the...

Sorry to press this point but you've bought a bike which has been running with 2 litres of its life blood missing for maybe quite a while. The dealer sounds like a galoot and so does the previous owner for allowing the oil level to drop to that extent. My strong advice is to return the...
Fair enough on a desert island, but swapping relays may not prove that one of them is faulty because relay faults are often intermittent. As I suggested earlier, since they're inexpensive items it's best to replace them.

Because your bike was delivered to you with such a lot of oil "missing", if it was me I'd return the bike and demand a refund. Needing 2 litres of oil is bad. Why was the level so low in the first place? If I found a bike's oil level so low when looking to buy it, I'd walk away.
You...

It's interesting that two of us suggested a possible relay problem in the same minute! The earlier V11 series Guzzis were notorious for giving relay problems and it was wise to replace all the Siemens relays with Bosch ones. Relays are inexpensive so why not just replace yours rather...
Peload never stiffens a spring. Preload is a tool to set ride height. Reducing front preload will lower the front ride height and consequently steepen the fork rake angle and reduce stabilising trail, which will "quicken" the steering. Increasing rear preload will have the same effect...
CARCs eligible for recall lacked a black pressed-steel protective-thrower fitted between the wheel hub and the CARC face. If peering between the wheel spokes you can see the CARC oilseal (often reddish) then it's one of those. The replacement CARCs came with the thrower too.
Lucky man!
I've broken chains, admittedly pre O-ring days. The CARCs on modern Guzzis have had their share of bearing and oilseal problems. My new ST1100 Honda had a casting hole in it which seeped oil when hot. Buells pre 2005 were infamous for belt failures. I've replaced two on friends'...
My Breva 11 had a (NZ made!) Ventura light guard on it. Beautifully shaped. Can't remember a bike in recent times that I haven't fitted one to. Or two in some cases!
Quaint? Must look up the meaning of that word!
In the case of the current Guzzis, finding a name for the bit where the rear wheel bolts on has been made easier by CARC being stamped boldly (And proudly?) on the face of it.
Over time I've often been asked what I prefer as the ultimate final...
