    California 1400 hanging throttle

By "they" I meant "the machinist that can do the headwork"... your description is apsolutly correct, I've tried to describe it before, going down a mountain rd., in a turn, the RPM drops below 3000 and the engine looses all braking then kicks in some fuel (power) kind of off & on type surge...

    California 1400 hanging throttle

Thanks for the quick reply. I am out of warranty and I understand what you mean, if the head is already removed, might as well have it checked out. For now I will wait until I have some other pressing issue. Because the bike runs so well currently. Don't they magniflux to check for unseen cracks?

Can I assume that pulling the head & lapping the valves would fix? My bike has the exact same symptoms, go up in the mountains get the engine very warm , the idle wants to hang @ 3000 rpm. With the older bikes they opened the valve lash (world specs) I'm curious to see where this goes.

    California 1400 hanging throttle

Mike, can you tell me more about the Temp. Sensor, where it's located? Ect. Did you only replace just the sensor, or was anything else done to your bike? how did you diagnose? This weekend my idle was sticking @ about 3000 rpm again. Very warm outside temp. I was driving up a winding mountain...

    California 1400 Engine Braking

Seems to me we are mixing two different symptoms together. I went back & read about fhe hanging throttle. I wrote a reply where I also combined both symptoms. My understanding is that the hanging throttle is the condition when the engine rpms don't drop down completely to idle speed &" hang up"...

I was helped diagnosing my faulty clutch switch by gurus here. try the cruise control. .when it doesn't work, clutch switch was bad. My switch lasted a couple years before failing, 2014 cali touring, .. factory part about $80-90 US or solder on new micro-switch ( save money) don't fix if...

Hi kiwi Dave, I wanted to keep you informed (and all interested) what I have found, Pete asked me if my cruise control was working (in other forum) and I discovered after a ride that it was NOT working, which he suggests could point to a clutch or brake switch. So you were on the right track...

might be an error in the clutch switch. It was replaced and was the last thing I was rechecking when the service code disappeared. Try putting your bike into gear, pull the clutch in, and see if it will turn over. If it starts, keep the clutch in and flip out the side stand. The motor should...

Probably, but like most here, I only use a small portion of the power that is available. I really like the idea that the fueling is right on, as I think that is better for longevity of the engine & I hope to keep this bike for a good while. Yes my bike runs really well too.

    California 1400 hanging throttle

Wanted to get back to all, unfortunately I don't know the answer. I found I still have a few months on my warranty and took the bike to dealer to have a look, he said clutch switch is good, no codes, clean bill of health. This condition on my bike usually only appears after a long, hot, ride &...

    Gas Mileage

When I fill the tank, I hand calculate, how many miles divided by gallons US. Like 100mi.÷ 3gal=33.3 mpg. That was my mpg when new. After a few thousand miles I started to get a consistent 34 mpg. Sometimes I have calculated up to 36 mpg. I drive freeway & back roads not much city driving...
