8V Norge: metallic rattling, maybe the collector box?

before dropping another $600 or so, I'd like a bit more certainty

8V Norge: metallic rattling, maybe the collector box?

My Norge has long experienced a metal on metal rattling under acceleration, sounds like it is under the engine. When I was in for my 18k service, the mechanic noted that the collector box had split on the seam, and we had it welded up at a nearby exhaust shop (stainless steel welding I believe)...

I appreciate the thread, looking forward to the rest.

    Broken Norge 8V 2012 :(

I'm on oil pressure switch #4, the last one I bought from Moto International (under $10). Hopefully will last a while. I've learned to stop worrying about oil leaks after owning a MG for three years. ;)

    Suspension setup for 2012 Norge

2012 Norge suspension is nothing like the 2v Norge suspension and is not woefully inadequate. I've put 20k miles on my 2011 including 7k miles of two up touring with about 450 lbs of passengers and luggage. The setting in the manual are fairly acurate: rear, turn the spring preload all the way...

    Front springs and shock

Your web site says that the Matris FM100KE is only for 2/4v Guzzis, not the 4/8v models. What do you have for the current gen Norge?

    Thanks all

I really thought I wanted a Triumph Sprint ST/GT. When my previous bike died, I went to the Triumph dealer and he talked me out of it, his idea is that it is much more of a Sport bike than a Touring bike. I'm 59 and have some physical issues, and a sport bike is not what I'm after. The Norge was...

    Front springs and shock

Yes, I'll see when the time comes. I really need the remote adjuster for the rear shock. I've owned Ohlins, so I know good suspension costs $$$, needs regular maintenance, and can transform the bike. Have you tested the Matris gizmo on the new gen Norge? I'll ask my mechanic, I think they...

    Front springs and shock

I have a 2011 Norge, I know the 2nd gen Norge got new suspension and indeed I find it rides and handles very well. I'm about 200 lbs (90 kg) and solo the handling is great. Add a passanger and bags, crank the rear spring and damper and it still rides and handles great. Way easier to handle than...

Hot Day - Oil Light !

turns out to be my oil pressure switch, the body cracked. This is switch failure #3, hoping that switch #4 will be from another source. BTW, I run 10W-60 oil. Alwys have to get it special ordered as the locals don't stock it.

    throttle position reset?

Tony, Is that something I could see without major disassembly?

Hot Day - Oil Light !

I've started seeing the same thing on my Norge. Only happens when it's really hot and idling.

    throttle position reset?

Todd, Bike was serviced a few weeks ago by the local dealer (18k service). Ran OK before my mishap with the throttle. It's going back Saturday.

    throttle position reset?

Background: 2011 Norge, my throttle sticks when it has been sitting overnight, so I have to remember to exercise it before starting. Recently I forgot to do it before starting, and I had the ignition switched on (motor not running) when I rotated the throttle. Not good: that set the "zero"...

8V High Mileage / Good News Stories

Good to see a positive thread going. I've put 17,000 miles on my Norge in the last 18 months. When it is running, which is most all of the time, this is the most fun I've had on a bike, my wife and I both love it immensely. There were a few loose bits early on ( side stand, oil leaks,) but with...

Best online place to purchase Agip oil?

recent BMW cars run 10w-60 synthetic, so a BMW car dealer would be a likely local source for oil. Saves $$$ on shipping if nothing else.

Norge running rough after being washed

I've had a 8v Norge for a year and some, ridden quite a bit in the rain and washed maybe a dozen times, haven't seen any issues with electrics. I'll definitely bookmark this thread though

    Agip engine oil

5w isn't better than 10w, it's just thinner when it is cold. Too thin isn't necessarily a good thing. I'm guessing that some shops "recommend" what they have in stock. My MG dealer doesn't stock 10w-60 so unless I pre-order it I don't get it (they use Mobil 1 V Twin by default, which is...

    Norge Tires`

I've only run the Pirelli Angel ST's on my Norge. I got 9000 miles out of the first set, about 5k of that was two up touring. Very impressive handling, works well in wet too. I've just replaced my rear again due to a puncture, and the dealer installed a new variant with an extra belt for heavier...
