Greetings, all:
I have a new to me '08 CalVin. I notice that whenever I open the tank to fill her up, or just to check the level I get a sucking sound. Especially on hot days or when I've been riding for a while and gas may be low. Sometimes it's just a slight sound, other times a noticeable "SWOOSH" when I lift the filler cap. Is this normal? What's the cause of it?
Thanks!

Joe, not normal or good. Do a quick search on "tip over valve" and be sure to check that the fuel cap drain line isn't pinched.

Mine used to do the same thing, especially in the sun. Just remove that valve. It's in the hose that runs out underneath the front of the tank. Valve should be inline somewhere alongside the left neck of the frame. Just replace with a barbed connector.

Thanks. Now for a newbie question, as I haven't looked beyond anything past the exposed parts of the bike, yet. I assume I need to remove the neck covers to find the hose, but will the tank have to be lifted or moved at all?

I usually just slide the tank back a couple inches. Then you can see the one way valve. You may or may not need to remove the fuel line from the petcock. No other lines will need to be disconnected to slide the tank back.

Great, thanks. It's too nice outside right now to work on anything, though. Going for a ride, will probably get to it when (if) our rain ever comes back. ;)
