My 2008 1200 sport has been misting oil around the carc unit. I figured to look into it during the off season, which is coming soon. But I was failed in my annual safety inspection which really pissed me off. So I'm looking into it now. Cleaned it up and figured I'd go for a ride and find the source. While looking it over and looking in my parts book, I noticed that the upper "upper dust cover" is missing the lower hose clamp.
I can't imagine why the PO may have removed it. In the parts book it appears to be a round hose clamp, meant to go around a "squarish" object. Any problem with shaping a regular hose clamp to fit? Should I buy the factory part? Am I missing anything here, like it doesn't really use one?

Hi Damon

Kevins right you can use a CV boot clamp, but knowing what the cover & clamps look like I'm a bit confused about the Lower clamp you refer to.
If you are expecting to see this on the outside of the boot it is not located there.

By that I mean the top clamp is visible when looking at the bike/carc, however the lower clamp you refer to (#7 Part Number 05358230) can only be seen if you lift the lower lip of the rubber boot , you'll see it hidden under there.

Let us know what you find, I can post a pic later on if it is of assistance.

Tony

Tony,
Yes I was looking for the clamp on the outside! I guess I'll look where it's supposed to be and see what I find.
Ain't the internet a wonderful thing; I'm not even embarrassed for being stupid. Thanks.
