Hi guys!
I have a problem and maybe you can help my with...
After 2 years and only 4850km my V7 racer just "blocked" in a total engine failure at 80km/h and I almost crashed. (my rear wheel stopped instantly)
I had no issues before that and serviced it every year... Did it ever happen to anybody?
My mechanic says its pointles to open the engine since you can clearly see that a rod failed and cracked the case. (see attached photo)
I've sent an email to Moto Guzzi Customer care (we dont have a dealer in my country) and they replied after 3 days:
"Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent web enquiry.

Let us kindly invite you to forward your request with a full description with VIN or Frame no. to the nearest official dealer in Hungary"
My warranty expired in august '15...but still I dont think its normal.
Now I'm thinking of buying a second hand engine since a replacement from the dealer is almost 5000 Euros.
What do you guys think? IMG 3257

It is rare for an Guzzi engine to throw a rod, but it is a machine and can fail. Get it to the dealer in Hungary. Keep working on Guzzi, they may help you out on a "good faith" warranty adjustment. Wouldn't hurt to try. BTW, glad you came away uninjured.

Wow, glad you are OK. They address the reply Dear Customer? This looks like nobody even read the damn thing. I would try calling and avoid email. It's too easy for email to be unread or delayed. If you are on the phone and not getting adequate help, ask for the next level up until you get the service/help you need.

Also, even if it threw a rod you only really know how bad it is after you open it up and look inside. As a racer I have blown up, and seen blown up, more than my share of motors. It is just a matter of parts, sometimes MORE parts.

Hungarian women are reason enough to travel there for repair/warrantee work. Keep on the manufacturer for them to honor warranty extension for an abnormal failure. There again, if I was in Hungary, I'd factor Romanian women as reason enough to travel for warranty work. Just saying.

As a Hungarian I absolutely agree with Hawghauler :)
When I lived there I had a Cali Stone and didn't have any problem with the service. OK it was 12 years ago so I don't know what the situation is nowadays with the dealer.

I have spent a bunch of time in Pecs, Kaposvar and of course Budapest. Great food, great beer and great looking people. You can travel the whole world looking for the prettiest women, but 1 minute on Vaci Utca would end the quest. It is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously.

Yo...guys :) . We've got lots of nice chicks here as well. I don't need to go to Hungary for that! :))
But what happened to my bike is really f..ked up and the bad thing is that nobody else had this problem with a V7!
The surprising thing is why Moto Guzzi isn't interested in what really went wrong?? No support what so ever!
I did not want to open the engine before a reply from them regarding a good faith warranty or at least some kind of understanding.
I expected more from Customer Care!!! :(

Don't give up. Keep contacting Moto Guzzi. I too think they would want to analyze the failure.

I don't think Moto Guzzi will commit to anything until the failure is analyzed by a dealer. Granted, the quality of the wrench looking at it will vary but they will want the opinion of a wrench they know. You have to think from their viewpoint. As an example what if you ran it out of oil then added some and tried to claim it? They would have no way of knowing without looking at it. I have a friend who does extended warranty claims for automotive and he runs into this stuff all the time. Unless looked at by the dealer, no claim in most instances. I would not disassemble anything till a dealer looked at it.

Exactly what I thought! This is why I left it as it is. All the yellow markers from the factory are still untouched, it still got oil (just a few drops at the crack is missing) and I'm 100% positive that if they are honest, after a close check up, they will see that it's a product failure...whatever it is (I'm so damn curious what went wrong).
Now the only thing that I want is the dealerships willingness to help and, if its the factory's fault, to take the blame and remedy it.
