B11 intermitant oil can

Getting an oil can warning on the dash. Oil level ok, clears when u pwr cycle. Read posts about inspecting the oil pump sounds complicated. Remove front cover, belt time cover, chain, sprockets to get to the pump. Dash errors showing O X whatever that means ecu errors empty. Any easy way to check pressure with gauge? whats thread on gauge and where is the access point please?
 
Likely just the sensor. If you don't have the diagnostic electronics to see what the error codes are, purchase it or visit your dealer. No easy way to intercept the oil pressure supply, outside of using a fitting on the supply lines to the heads.

There are two columns in the dashboard errors display, memorized and active. If there is an "X" in either of these columns, this means there has been a fault at one stage (for memorized) or there is a current fault (for active).

The error codes are:-

DSB 01 Immobiliser fault: key code read but not recognised or key code not read
DSB 02 Key not present or transponder broken
DSB 03 Immobiliser fault: Antenna broken (open or short-circuit)
DSB 04 Immobiliser fault: internal controller fault
DSB 05 Fuel sensor fault
DSB 06 Air temperature sensor fault
DSB 07 Oil sensor fault DSB
DSB 08 Oil pressure fault

You can clear memorized errors in the diagnostics menu. Your user manual should explain all this.
 
One thing to check is the connection on the sender switch, these are known to be a bit iffy. With a bit of dexterity this can be checked without taking anything apart (except the connection....)

thks for the repies. When browsing the error log it just says OX 1 to 6 times but how do u get more detail on 1 line item? this is an 06 Breva in the dodgy norge oil pump bracket with 90miles. looking for guides to remove the front timing cover sprockets etc to get at the pump and realign timing. Bikes not worth much now and a pump is £300
 
found the engine manual on the web which detail timing removal then oil pump. Look complicated realigning the timing maybe to big a job for me.

The 06 Breva and 06 Norge use different oil pumps. The Breva pump has no issues. Check the sending unit and connections before going in too far. I think you are making too much of this. You can check the parts manuals yourself, they are in the Resource section.
 
The error is probably being produced by the faulty pressure sender being open circuit when the ignition is switched on. The system sees this as a missing or malfunctioning sensor and therefore produces the warning triangle. I have a Breva that would do this regularly when the motor was warm, but was OK when it was cold. Finally fixed it for good by installing the genuine pressure switch (part number 31768780), as opposed to ones I had been using, which were for other Guzzi models.

No need to remove the airbox, although fairly easy to get off, it can be a real front bottom to get back on. Instead come in from the left hand side, remove the LH header pipe, and then the crankshaft position sensor (part number 01721600), being careful not to lose any shims that may be under it.

Then using a 21mm flat ring spanner and a lot of dexterity, replace the sender unit with the genuine article. Check that the cable is a snug fit on top of the sensor when refitting it.
 
THKS Guys Great advice going to do this as it doesnt sound to difficult or costly and might fix it my crankshaft pos sensor is leaking a lot do I replace with pn 01721600 or just a seal but what is the seal pnumber pls?
 
The Crankshaft position sensor is sealed by a rubber "O" ring. I bought a packet of assorted sizes from a hardware shop and selected one that fitted, no leaks in over 50,000Kms.
 
Opps the top allen bolt flicked behind the cylinder when extracting the cam sensor so off with the tank and airbox. U know owning a high mileage guzzi is to death do us part because no one wants them as a part ex. Thks for the tips I'm happy replacing the sensor and not the whole bike.

The cam position sensor rarely if ever has a leak through the body. It is the o-ring that seals it that leaks. I usually put on a very thin coat of clear RTV on the o-ring when I see one leak and that stops the leak.
 
Bill mine too! I have replaced sensor but I think the electrical connection is sus, at best. i am thinking of changing the connection to a different one, as suggested on another forum we inhabit.
 
The oil pressure switch changed from a 21mm nut to larger diameter and crush washer and spade instead of pole. Think my orginal was leaking oil and or cam sensor. Replacing the oil sensor switch and cam seal fixed my bike. Thks guys
 
I hope you don't emulate my experience of installing a non-genuine part number, and have to repeat your efforts.

What I never understood it's just a bloody pressure switch, nothing complicated about it. Yet I tried ones purchased in New Zealand and Los Angeles (all supposedly for a Guzzi), that ultimately failed until I bit the bullet and insisted on a genuine one specifically for the Breva 1100.

Perhaps after about seven or eight times I just fluked it.
 
there were some "suspect" units out there for a while, and may still be (new/old stock). So caution is still needed when replacing. Mine was replaced but still does it occasionally, but there are workarounds including dissassembly and repair...
