I just got on my Breva 1100 and it won't start. It acts like the battery is about dead and the starter motor does not spin. I saw APSB 0016 on the instrument panel. What does this code mean? By the way, the bike is a recently purchased leftover 2007 that now has about 300 miles on it. :(

Re: Breva 1100 won't start-code APSB 0016

you can display the battery voltage using mode switch on the left handlebar. The voltage is displayed by the trip computer. I would put the battery on a charger to check its fully charged then reconnect having grease the terminals. If the battery good sometimes the right bar black starter button corrodes and the copper need cleaning inside.

Re: Breva 1100 won't start-code APSB 0016

When you press the starter everything goes dead? then you release the button or four seconds later it goes through the 'Dash Sweep' again? Battery voltage drops below the critical point when the starter is asked to draw current. Dash sees it and shuts everything down. When current is no longer required for the starter system re-energises. Repeat.

Cause is low battery charge. Either because of parasitic drain from the immobilizer if the 30A fuse wasn't taken out when the bike was stored for winter or the battery wasn't put into service correctly or, it's just a duff battery, but I've yet to see one of those.

Charge up the battery with a fairly high charge rate for a few hours then try again. If it starts ride to a shop with a battery load tester and get it checked.

Re: Breva 1100 won't start-code APSB 0016

Thanks guys. I just got back in from dealing with my bike.

When I turned the key the dash sweep would happen. Then when I hit the starter, there was a thunk sound and the dash would blank out. I have no Guzzi experience but it was acting like an almost dead battery.

I had put a trickle charger on it for about an hour and it did not help. I took the battery out and took it to an auto parts store and had it load tested. The battery was fine. I scrubbed the battery posts and connections with a wire brush and it then cranked right up.

I guess there was a little oxidation or corrosion or just Guzzi character.

Re: Breva 1100 won't start-code APSB 0016

If the batery load tested fine I would also suggest whipping off the starter motor cover and cleaning up the earth mounting point fot the earth strap which is undder the hexagonal bolt-thingy thr top starter cover bolt screws into.

Thanks for the advice. I do appreciate the help.

Re: Breva 1100 won't start-code APSB 0016

What you described happening isn't all that uncommon. I had it happen on a road trip and had to clean the terminals on the battery in 105 degree Georgia (high humidity) heat in a Hardee's parking lot. When I got home, I tinned the battery cables with solder to help prevent future corrosion, at least on the cable.
