CA EV1100 Tours to Sturgis, Claw, Back and Tail of the Dragon

I am in Orlean VA. I just looked up where you are and realized I have been thru that area before. The location sounded familiar. Do you remember the place located off I-81 that sold Guzzi's in the early 2000's? That is where I got my 2003 CA EV1100. Is there a Guzzi place near where you live that might be in the next state? The only close places for me are in Arlington VA and Richmond VA.

Good morning from my temp stay in Wendell, N.C., where I am being trained by the dog I am supposed to be watching. :giggle:

And, apologies for my delayed response to yours, tho the foregoing explains why!

Orlean is, as you know, some of the most beautiful dirt in the Old Dominion. Looks more like Wales than Wales! ;)

Also -- as you also well know -- for those same reasons, it's about the most expensive place to live in the state! I can afford Frederick County, not Loudoun.

Anyway, yes, as to Carl's place in Clear Brook. Was sorry to see him retire, as that was the closest I've lived to a Guzzi dealer!

I have been unimpressed by the Arlington dealer, but have had several good experiences with the Richmond one. Was especially impressed with their prompt and supportive help with the only warranty issue I had with my Stornello.

That said, I have been taking my V85 to Kissell's in Tyrone, Pa. Very fine service department. Yes, a bit of a haul for you -- just north of Altoona -- but, heck, you have a trailer. ;)

Seriously, the roads from your place to Kissell's are a delight. Besides, you can stop off at the Moto Grappa on the way to and back for sympathy if nothing else. :giggle:

Now, the unfortunate reality is that many dealers -- I do not know about Kissell's on this issue -- are disinclined to work on "older" models. I (and my friends similarly afflicted) do our own work on my '98 EV. Happily, it needs little work despite its 108K miles.

I'd better stop now ... that golden demands attention.

I went to Arlington a couple of years ago looking for a new Guzzi but if I cannot put my feet down then I do not buy. There is no place to park and they sell mostly scooters. They had a use 2014 CA 1400 which I was not well cared for and was sitting outside and looking drab. It is probably still there with a reduced price.

A friend of mine bought a Aprilla Torueg? from there and he had to go down and get a s/w update. He drove down there and waited for about 5 hours for them to do a 5min download/update. He had scheduled a 1000 appt. but got it done about 1500 when they got around to it. He was not pleased. BTW his Aprilla came with a Li-ion battery that when it sits for about a week it discharges so he put in a cut off switch while it sits there. There is a security system that draws on the battery. Evidently that is a problem with those bikes.

I do need a flash update for my CA1400 and have been considering taking it to Richmond and waiting for them to do it. Otherwise I do all my own work on both bikes. Just take my time and take baby steps. I have seen some people do their own flash updates. Not sure about that just yet if I can do it myself. My buddy with the Aprilla can update his own if he has a good internet connection as he found out.
