My '07 Norge has approx. 52K miles and it's running better then ever. Lately I've been reading about some riders replacing carc bearings, seal leaks, non-greased bearings, etc...
Should I take mine apart and check? Should a carc be serviced and if so, at what interval?

Only service is the regular oil changes for the CARC. Only replace seals and bearing when needed.

That said, teh swing arm tapered roller bearings and shock linkage needle bearings should be greased if you haven't already don it. They don't have much grease applied at the factory and may rust if not properly greased. I use a bearing packer and grease gun for the swing arm bearings. They have a seal at the big end that prevents hand packing. This is about a 3 hour job and requires the special socket (Todd sells them) to set the pre-load torque for the swing arm bearings.

I have done oil changes on the Carc regularly. I have also purchased the special socket/tool from Todd, I just need to familiarize myself with the steps on how to "use a bearing packer and grease gun for the swing arm bearings" ;-)
 
My next Guzzi chore is the Swing Arm bearing also. My 07 Griso has 37,000 miles on it now. After I re-greased the headset bearings a month or so ago I was amazed at how much easier it "turned in". There was plenty of grease in the bearings before but the old brown grease must have been pretty thick. Now I get a lot more feedback through the bars and delicate steering inputs generate a response from the bike.

I wonder if greasing the swing arm bearings will soften the suspension.

I really wonder if the three hour job includes Grappa, cheese, Focaccia and nap breaks. My standard motorcycle / car maintenance procedure.
