Being a somewhat lazy individual I figured the easiest way to hook up the GPS was to tap the power lead into the heated grip, GPS fuse. My unit is a TomTom 2013 4.3" model. For some reason sitting in the mount while not riding the battery goes dead in the unit. The bike battery is fine. If I take it out of the mount the battery seems to stay up. At first I tapped into the lighting fuse and thought it was backfeeding through the LED's. But I have the same problem on the current fuse. Where is the GPS wire supplied by Guzzi? My money says under the front tank covers but I want to be sure before removing them. Any idea what color the wire is? I can't make it out on the wiring diagram.
Yes, I am aware the fuse box layout in the manual is backwards from reality. I even pulled a couple fuses to verify that. Don't do that if you don't have the program to clear the codes. Ask me how I know! Fortunately I do have the program.

Testing the fuses to see if the manual and reverse layout was correct I pulled the instrument panel fuse while forgetting I still had the key on. This threw up a bunch of codes. I hooked up the Centurion software and cleared them. I still had the traction control light on. Later I figured I just had to reset that from the dash by selection a mode as it shut itself off. Looking at the TPS settings and seeing it was only set at 3.0 I figured what the heck I can set it back but let's do a reset. This set it to 0 and going by the huge changes others were recommending on other models I saw no big worry. Of course I did not get to test ride it before I went on this trip.
The bike runs WAY smoother but the gas mileage went from 43 to 37mpg. When I get home I am going to have to find a happy medium.

I mounted a Tomtom Rider v.5 on my California Touring. The sat-nav connector is under the stainless cover on top of the fuel tank. I removed that cover and the plastic steering head cover, then I "fished" out the connector with a long forceps. It's wrapped with a small zip tie. Once you cut the zip tie, the connector and its wiring are long enough to easily reach the Tomtom mounting base (I used that gps mount from MG). The dealer knew none of this, I had to figure it out on my own. After installing and conecting my Tomtom, it's been smooth sailing.

Thanks. I shall do a search for that wire the next time I have those plastic guards off. Probably this winter. I plan on changing the fuel filter to all metal if it has the half plastic one. The Guzzi part number is the same as the half plastic one so it probably is. I used the mount that came with the TomTom 2013 and clamped it to the handlebars. I actually prefer the lower mount and I got to keep $100+.
