Excuse the probably real dumb question. Just Returned to Tonti Guzzis after 18 years, The bike is a café racer Bitsa based on a Cali frame & has got 40mm pumpers fitted on a 1100 sport engine. Cold starts fine (tickle the carbs & a couple of twists on the throttle) However, when hot not so easy. I stopped to fill up with fuel. and it took several attempts to start. Do I need to re-tickle the carbs etc? Too much time with injected bikes and I've forgotten best technique!

Do not use the rich jets nor pump the carbs at all when hot. If necessary just slightly open the throttle as you turn the bike over. If properly tuned you shouldn't have to touch anything for a hot start, just press the start button. What is the exhaust you are running and you jets and needles? When I was setting up 1100s I found the K5 needle with 150 mains. 265 atomizer, and 52 pilot worked well and may be a starting point for you.

Cheers for the reply. The bike has (he says) been set up by a guzzi specialist, with a rebuilt engine, open bellmouths . Hektik ignition, open mega zorsts. It runs well on the road at all revs. Just seems to be reluctant at hot starts. I tried variations of "no throttle" & "part throttle" before it decided to play ball & start. I didn't see if it puffed black smoke on eventually starting though. I don't know if it was too rich or too lean causing the probs. Had left the petrol taps "on " while I filled up though. Was wondering if there was anything obvious before I ran the specialist.

That has been modified so much it is impossible to assist remotely. If Idle mix was set hot, you might be a bit off. Usually the mix screws should be about 2.5 turns out from fully seated, but with the modifications there is no way to say if even that would be correct.
