V7 GPS connection?!

This supplies fused 12-volt power when the ignition switch is on. It's a plug that hides under the instrument panel. It's tied up with a zip tie, which can be cut and then the cable can be extended enough to plug into the mount for a TomTom Rider Nav unit. The plug is proprietary and the socket is molded into the TomTom mount, and not available separately. Most folks who want to use this connection for another purpose cut off the plug and wire in a standard SAE two-conductor plug. However, a knowledgeable forum participant with the handle "pauldaytona" has discovered that there is a short Mercedes Benz cable, part number 230-540-01-66, that does mate with the plug. This cable can be ordered from Autonation Parts Direct for about $20.

The V7 GPS plug mates to a common one sold by BMW (P/N: 83300402344). You will need to supply/soldier the plug at the other end. No need to cut the harness.
I just made a plug in cable for a GPSMAP 60Cx.

Thanks. About the same price, and the wiring looks more robust than the Mercedes cable.

I just wired my GPS to the battery. Just have to remember to turn it off. I don't like molesting the original wiring on the harness.

I just spliced my Garmin cradle to the GPS wire after cutting off the plug. Why worry about plugs if the cradle will stay on the bike? Silly NOT to use the dedicated GPS wiring and have to worry about battery drain by connecting it direct to the battery.

I understand that. My GPS does not charge when the power is turned off, so no drain on the battery. If I had one that did, I would most likely use that connection provided.

Oh man, I know this is more of a necrothread than the last one I brought back from the dead but I figured I'd mention what I ended up doing.

I left that wire alone, got an extension for the Battery Tender pigtail, and ran that from the pigtail on the battery up to my left handlebar.
Then I got a RAM mount for my iPhone.
Then I got a Sena 20S.
Then I got a Battery Tender USB power adapter.

So now I can charge my iPhone off the battery if I need to, use the battery tender from a more practical position (for me), and hear the phone, music, or Maps over bluetooth to my helmet. It's great!
