Well clearly he has no idea WTF he's talking about. TC is 100% spark control based on the wheel rotation to RPM table.

Yeah that's how it was usually done on full mechanical throttles.

I should say the speculation on purpose was my own not his, he just noted the mechanical play during disassembly at training. So forgive my errant speculation.

I wonder what they meant by DC motor throttle control then, was that really just a bad translation for stepper motor idle control/throttle bypass?
 
I have a PDF in the Resources section that talks in depth about the ECU/T-B. There is an ECU controlled valve that uses an extra air channel around the throttle plate that is used to handle cold idle. The 02's are always being used below ~30% throttle.
Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry for the "fake news", but I read somewhere that the O2 sensors are only for controlling cold idle. The MIU G3 info I have (a pdf that looks like it was converted from a PowerPoint presentation) doesn't directly address this issue, at least I couldn't fid it.
