V7 Shifting/Neutral Problems

Thanks Jeff. I had a quick look this arvo but will check it again tomorrow. Pretty sure it's okay.

Im having the same issues on my 2014 V7 racer. When hot i cant find neutral easily and i had some bike walk when in first.
I messed with it a bit at the lever and it helped for one ride then it came back. I tried at the cable end near the transmission but not sure of the proper procedure for doing this on a V7 Racer.

So can any one point me to the correct procedure in detail on how this adjustment is done?

I think I got it all set. I followed @My name is Jeff 's advice on how to tell i you have the correct free play.

Then I looked to see if the cable was touching the fins of the cylinder head. Sure enough it was!!! But I guess MG learned something and added a rubber sleeve over the clutch cable in the area. Guess it will help at first but over time it will melt all the way through to the cable and then that will melt.

Here it is moved out of the way so you can see the melter sleeve

And on my V7 Racer there is a little plastic hook that comes down from a plastic box just under the tank.
I was able to pus the cable up to that hook while pushing the hook with my right hand so it bent down/sideways allowing
enough movement for me to slide, with my left fingers, the cable onto the hook .

here is a pic

Went for a 15 mile ride after and the shifting was fine and neutral was easy to get in to from first or second.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

You don't find your cable dragging mounting this high up to the hook?

I use a zip tie which sort of elevate but the rubber still kisses the fin a tad

No not at all and actually it seams to have an easier pull on the lever. Maybe its placebo effect but i only rode about 50-60 miles this way and shifting is definitely easier now.

My wife's 2014 V7 Special had the same issue with the clutch cable. I tried the cable over the hook idea, but found that the pull at the lever would bind. Allowing the cable to "rest" where the factory had it routed provided the easiest pull until the cable was heated by the cylinder...especially as the factory installed rubber sleeve melted. So, I decided to keep the original routing and protected the cable from coming into contact with the cylinder fins by wrapping the rubber sleeve with heat resistant and anti-abrasion tape retained by 2 tie wraps. I also installed half a section of MG anti-vibration insert (p/n B063111) into the open fins next to the rubber sleeve to cushion the sleeve as it rested on the cylinder. It probably sounds more complex than it is to accomplish. Just make sure you are starting with a good, serviceable cable assembly.
