Hi all,

Im sure this info is on the forum somewhere but my search skills are somewhat lacking. So decided to check valve settings which I found all were tight (7K miles on bike) after performing this i did an oil/filter change. There was far too much oil in from previous owner/garage. After this i had a good scout around the bike before going for a test ride, then i noticed an oil drip on the left cylinder fins below the head gasket. I thought it was likely me splashing oil about on the change but that's not the case i definitely see an oil seep from the head gasket at the bottom i.e. gasket at the top looks dry and cant see any oil from breather etc. Bike rides fine no issues, the leak is small amount so my question is should i first try a re-torque of the head i.e. slacken 1/8inch then re-torque ? or just go for a new head gasket. I see there are other posts with this issue, if i take on the head gasket myself which to me looks quite simple on these bikes is there likely to be any shims/bushes etc that might ping all over the place when i remove the head ? also i cant find the head tighten procedure i.e. sequence and interim torque settings or if there is a slacken sequence for the re-torque. Any advice appreciated.

nothing to lose but a bit of time by re-torquing it now. Most people say to back them off a 1/4 turn. now I'm going from a weak memory here but I think on the 2015 I just used a criss cross pattern but did add 2# to there spec and I think I wound up at 30#. then the small one I think was 18#and I did 19. I didn't make a note of it for some reason on my maintenance chart but if nobody else pipes up with the specs I think I have the original note Guzzi Steve sent me out in the garage. Don't forget to re set the valves when done.

Thanks I'm going to give it a shot before replacing the gasket. I would prefer to replace both but can't find in the UK any decent options other than the standard ones, which seem to get quite a bad press. I gave the small top nut at 28nm and the other 4 at 42nm. it's clearly seeping at the bottom where oil feeds are I think I wonder the 2 bolts at the bottom of the havnt been torque correctly.

odds are it wasn't done at the 600 mile first service.
As a quick update, i re-torqued the head, all nuts/bolts seemed way below the correct torque. I know the head pushed down after as the valves tightened up, so after re-adjusting them and a good test ride no more oil seeping.
