Does anyone have a stock Griso 8v Shock laying around that I could borrow / rent for about a month. Trying to get Ohlins to match up one of their shocks to the Griso. Will gladly share any info if Ohlins does it.

Thanks
Scott

In 24 hours my suspension guru will be inside my Matris R for a look see and a little fiddle.
He said externally it has the appeareance or style of an Ohlins, but to the eye the whole package looks much better made.

Now get this, a German engineer I know who speaks fluently in 5 languages personally knows the 2 Italian guys who own Matris, he claims that Ohlins is actually a copy of the Italian product.

Anyhow, if my susp guru says Matris R internals are better than Ohlins, then why stuff around for something that doesn't exist when Todd has the product on the shelf.

What I can tell you is the Matris is 500g lighter than your sachs shock, and even an extensively modified Griso component doesn't even come close to the ride quality of the Matris.

Collected my Matris R today, Scotty and I have both been busy ...........................

His verdict; extremely high quality and if I ever buy a race bike I should use this shock.
The number of adjustable internal valving circuits, blow offs etc make it infinitely adjustable..

I already have an Ohlins on my 2009 Griso, there was an Aprilia that was a match for the Griso shock plus it has adjustable ride height. I am 185lb in gear and the shock works flawlessly for me. I did have Stucchi Carc bar which I had to notch by 1/16" to clear the reservoir on the Ohlins

The specs I received for it were
Ohlins AP-840 Motorcycle Shock
Ohlins Type Code: S46R1C1LS
Length: 321 +5/-1 mm
Stroke: 56 mm
Spring: 01093-54

with a replacement spring The spring part number is: 01093-26/85 L227 for the desired
The spring is is 85 N/mm or 485 ibs/inch. Higher end of mid range on the Ohlins scale. The size is 1093 which is 150 mm or 5.9". Ideal weight of rider and luggage is 170-220 pounds, but is adjustable of course.

small video showing it better, blue painters tape was to guage if there was contact but it never did, but I still filed some down just incase I flex it someday.
Thanks for the info on both posts above Chris. So with the stock stabilizer arm, there would most likely be contact, yes?

For others interested, I offer a Penske piggyback (shown below/click for link) like the Ohlins, but it doesn't have a hydraulic spring preload adjuster option (only manual), and of course I also have the Ohlins-superior Matris R, along with the R Fork cartridge kit shown below.

The stock stabilizer arm would have cleared with the ohlins. Like I said I just trimmed the aftermarket one just incase i was cranked over loading up the tire and didn't want to take the risk of some contact.

Not to get off the track too far, but the stock sachs, is a very very well made shock(I mean durable and long lasting) and can be re-valved and re sprung for $350 if you do not have the cash for a better shock. On the shock dyno it matched the performance of a penske twin clicker. after the re-work, The shock dyno is not the final measure of feel but matching the twin clicker is pretty good. And The sachs is built to be abused.

yes but you can't get adjustable ride height on the stock sachs shock, or a knob that adjusts the preload like a good aftermarket shock. That's great to know, but I wanted a little more lift and the abilty to quickly compensate for my girlfriend on the back of the bike.

The stock shock is built for a price-point, and perhaps durability, sure... But after factoring in a new spring and shipping both ways on top of your quote, you are close to new shock that is light-years better then the Sachs, easily rebuildable and built exactly to your specs. To each his own.

Will that spring fit/work on stock Sachs shock?
