| What is Rising Rate?
Rising rate is a spring wound so that every wind is progressively closer (see image HERE). On a normal "linear" spring, the coils are evenly spaced and compress at the same rate. i.e. one centimeter compression yields each to be spaced at .9 centimeters. In a two-step linear spring (or one-step rising rate/progressive), approximately half of the coils are shorter spaced. As the spring compresses, the shorter spaced coils seat/bind, effectively eliminating them from the spring. This "second-step" spring will be much stiffer in the later half of its travel. This yields one set of handling characteristics pre-compression of the shorter coils, then post. Rising rate offers a near perfect world. Soft initial coil compression, then as the forces grow the stiffer response... giving you maximum control, comfort and braking.
