CLUTCH AARRGH!

Turn in in half to 3/4 turn and re-adjust the cable. Ideally, the clutch arm (the straight part) will be at about 90 degrees to the clutch push rod when the clutch lever is pulled in.
 
Tibor, sorry... missed this. Follow the clutch cable down the right side of the motor. It hooks to an arm. That arm has an adjuster on it where it meets the back of the transmission. There is a 13mm lock nut and a straight nub-ed adjuster bolt. All a bit fiddly and difficult to get to and adjust. Be sure you put all of the slack back in the cable at the lever before adjusting, so it makes it a bit easier to adjust at the back of the trans, and you can take the remaining slack back out at the lever like normal. This is likely covered in the service manual under the Resources tab above. Let me know if that helps.
Thanks Todd for your advice and for keeping this website going. Really a great group of people. I unscrewed the 13mm lock nut but could not seem to budge the straight nub-ed adjuster bolt. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Did you restore the slack in the cable before trying to make the adjustment? There has to be quite a bit of free cable to make this adjustment.
 
Yes I did. Do I turn the adjuster clockwise?
Yes, clockwise. It's a bit of a tough one. I usually use a small adjustable wrench or needle-nose vice grips. It's not easy.
 
Make sure your clutch cable isn't melting on a cylinder. They came from the factory resting against one of them. Have to wire tie it out of the way.
 
I'm worried it may be more serious, too muck slack in the cable. Can't drive it.
 
Where did you buy the bike? Sounds like the cable is wrong, or you have it installed incorrectly. Can you post pics of the cable at the handlebar adjuster? Did you mess with the adjuster at the arm on the tranny?

I put lower sportier handlebars on the bike. Do you think that maybe the reason I have extra slack on the cable, and can I get a shorter cable for the guzzi?
 
The lower bar shouldn't be the issue. What matters is the inner cable length versus the outer sheath. That ratio determines the the operation. You only need to change cable when the cable won't reach the handlebar.
 
No, lower bars should not make a big difference. The main thing other than the cable over all needing to be long enough is the difference between the outer cable sheath and the actual inner cable. That is the main factor in what determines slack.

Is it possible the cable I got from my dealer may be too long? Do they make shorter length cables?
