Hey guys,

Don't know if anyone has posted about this or not but here goes- 14' V7 Stone with 23k miles..

Noticed some interesting behavior recently, revving in 5th gear around the 5.5k rpm range; going between 55-65mph. I've been experiencing momentary loss of power if I really lay into the throttle, rpms will continue to climb higher but acceleration lags. To remedy I have to briefly let off the throttle and slowly apply again to build speed. Only modification have made to the bike is deleted the evap carbon filter, plugged the intake vent associated with said filter. I'm running the k&n air filter, and mistral cans with baffles removed. Bike was re-flashed by AF1 in ATX around the 15k mile mark. All other maintenance has been kept up with and then some.

I notice the lagging more when the bike is somewhat cold, but I have also noticed it when the bike is warm.
Anyone else experience this, or have any insight as to what may be causing it?

If the RPMs continue to climb while the accel lags, I'd put my money on a failing clutch.

edit: eh I don't know if I somehow I didn't see 'clutch slippage' on your subject line or if you edited it but yeah looks like you're already aware of that possibility. I heard of some V7s having a problem with their clutch wearing out prematurely due to being poorly adjusted by the dealer. I had to have mine replaced around 15k but that might've been due all the slow speed lane splitting I do in the city.

That's all it was, just out of adjustment due to the cable stretching.. haha

No, I actually loosened the adjuster at the clutch lever and gave it more slack. Measured 2-3mm gap at the lever after. There was literally no slack at the lever, and it's been set like that since I was last at the dealer about 9k miles ago. Forgive me, I'm not so savvy on things of a clutchy nature..

The current specification is 2mm at the clutch lever, so good work. Glad you found the cause.

John, do you have an idea of when the clutch plate should be replaced under normal circumstances?

Guys, EXTREMELY well covered here. Loading the clutch via too tight of cable will cause excessive heat/wear on the clutch and related parts. Un-abused clutches can easily go 40-60k miles or more. Abused clutches can last 5-10k miles or less.
