Mounting Brackets for Throw Over Saddlebags...

Hello, This is my first posting and I was wondering if anyone has mounted any throw over saddlebags or and other type of saddlebag that is not necessarily made for a Cali 1400. I bought a set of Saddleman Throw Over Saddlebags and I am looking for some mounting brackets to keep it away from the rear shocks/exhaust. Has anyone done this? If so, where did you mount the brackets and which kind? With a new baby in the house I just could not justify spending the money on the c-bow system with bags and I definitely could not afford the hard cases or the leather Guzzi bags.

I have a 1400 Custom by the way.

Thanks for any help in advance.

You could consider making some simple brackets connected to the frame where the C-bows would normally attach. I wouldn't envisage this would be a major exercise, just a bit of bent steel rod to slip down the side.

Thinking about it, I'm surprised that someone hasn't already offered such a simple device.

Yeah, I see universal brackets everywhere, but I guess I am wondering where they would mount to in order to know which to get/fabricate.

I used these from Dennis Kirk but I had to modify them a bit to fit. I wasn't really happy with them because they sit a bit back but they didn't look bad and worked. I ended up getting some other bags with mounts.

Can I ask where you mounted it? Like which bolt did you use?

I made a set for a 1400 that is in my shop now. I’ll snap some photos, and I might be able to offer a set of two to sell to those interested. Pre-paid in advance only.

I had Todd make some brackets for me. There were two mounting points at the shock bolts and at the OEM rack points. I posted pictures so they should be on this forum somewhere. I have since replaced them with C Bow and bags. The ones Todd made for me are for sale if anyone is interested.
I found the posting with pictures but I don’t know how to post a link. The title is Guzzitech softbag Support’s

I would love to see a picture of it and I would also be interested in purchasing a set if the price was right. Like I said in the post I am tight on cash with the baby right now so if I have to I will modify a cheap pair to hold me over. I am interested in seeing at least where you have them mounted. Thank you so much for the help.

Do you know what what thread it was in? I would definitely be interested in buying them if the price was right. I can search for the thread.

I'll take some pics later, but I mounted some generic eBay Chinese bags with their included universal brackets recently on my 2014 Cali1400 Custom. Unexpectedly, it was dead easy. Front support point was one of the passenger foot peg bolts up to the lower front of the bag. Rear was off one of the rear luggage rack/fender attach points. All in all, with test-fitting a few times, drilling three holes in bags, it took about an hour (I was in no hurry). I also recently saw a Viking bags universal kit, and it was identical to what I got with the Chinese bags. If you can handle a cordless drill and a tape measure, I wouldn't be afraid of any of the Viking bags...

If you type that heading into the search bar the pictures come right up. If you want them make me an offer. I think I paid about $125 to have them made and they are powder coated black. But they are just sitting collecting dust so I would like to send them to someone that can use them.

If you like what you see how about $50. Plus shipping

Thanks for the pictures. They look really good, but unfortunately I do not have the luggage rack on my bike and I don't really plan on getting it anytime soon so I don't believe I could mount those. Thanks for the help though.

Thank you all for the help. I think I may have been confusing in my first post. I don't have the luggage rack, which is where my dilemma occurs. The mount point on the rack does not exist. I could mount something on the top of the rear shock, but then I don't seem to have a second mounting point due to the absence of the luggage rack.

Hey Michael
Actually you could use the shock mount and the mount just under the edge of the fender that the rack uses. I’m sure that Todd could make or has made a support rack using those mount points. Contact him and I’m sure he could make something up.

Okay, cool. Thanks!

Hi Michael, took this pic when I was making up brackets for my Eldo, it shows you where the mounting holes are under the guard, just to the rear of the shocks. These are the ones used when mounting the Guzzi rack. They are 2 welded nuts each side at the end of the cross member.

Thanks! This has all been really helpful.
