i did a few search attempts, but didn’t find anything specific to this. I’m a little confused on what a Bassa is...

Does this bike use the Tonti frame? I’m yet another one of those guys building a racer out of a cruiser. I’m certain the lower frame is not going to take rear sets, and the swing arm may be longer than the older bikes.

Thanks!!!

Yes it is a Tonti frame. Basically an EV with slightly different trim.

Thank you, Sir. Now I’m trying to decide if fuel injection is the way to go, or if I should stick to the carb models.

carbs: better MPG have to fiddle
FI: set it forget it.
Do you see any issues with EFI? Beyond the look I’m going for, the EFI sounds like an easier way to go. I figure if I run side panels, you won’t see the extra wires and such. Thanks!

No issues.
I did not get into EFI bikes until 2014 so I there was a learning curve about "new tech".

Does anyone know if the Lemans or T subframes are different beyond all the extra brackets that the Bassa runs? Basically, I want to run rear sets. If is just extra brackets, I’ll just remove them.

Thanks!!!

Run the stock Bassa frame rails. The older ones will fit, but do not have the same side to side brace among other things. Just remove whatever you want.

Perfect! I was hoping it was a cosmetic thing. I can cut whatever needs to be cut. Thank you.

First, I can’t believe how awesome it is to have this source of info. Thanks out to everyone who’s commented on my project.

So now I’m the owner of a 1999 Bassa FI. I pulled the tank to find an assortment of extra do-dads relating to the FI. I have a replacement tank in order, but now I need to figure out which of the extra FI inlets are absolutely necessary, and if the tank needs to be under pressure for FI to work. (Due to the style of cap I’ll be using)

I’ve already removed the air box for space and will end up using a set of pods or velocity stacks with foam inserts. I’m new to FI, and would love to know if anyone else has switched out a tank and what they ended up doing on an FI model.

Thanks again!

FYI - I’ll have a ton of Bassa parts, if anyone needs anything. Tank, seat, fenders, side panels, fairings, etc!

If you want to understand the FI system there is a service manual for it in the downloads section.
On the swingarm: If you use the shorter one you need change the upper attachment post for shocks to a position that is like the frame that the swingarm came from so they do not bind.
On the fuel tank: You will need a feed outlet to the pump. You will need a return inlet for fuel not used. You will need a vent (usually more than the cap offers) because there is a lot of fuel splashing in there from the return line. Tank should not be under pressure. You still need a filter, pressure regulator, and pump. Also a shut off for fuel going to pump, so you can take off the tank. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. Time to get my learning on. I think I’ll try and match the current set-up and bolt up as is. Pulling the box solved the space issue for sure. I’ll be looking into adjusting the throttle bodies since it will be getting a lot more air now. Much appreciation on the guidance!

Yup, I’m planning on looking into this. I’m guessing the throttle bodies don’t use jets like a carb does. I’ll read up on the manual to begin sorting that out.

Welcome, and donations appreciated to support the site. Once you do, you will unlock the Download and Resources sections, which covers most of all of the questions you have. I've done several tank swaps on Cal Tontis... and I have been a Guzzi-focused F.I. specialist since ~2001. While I can't answer questions on setup here, I can sell you the correct products to perfect it. See the Fueling section on the online Store tab above. ECU flash tool/service or Power Commander is the only way to do it.

Just donated a bit, and I hope it helps keeping this site alive and strong. I hope to also offer guidance to others, as I work through my project. Good stuff.

A quick update on this project. I heard back from Richard (Tab) and he is new to the FI specific tank build. He’s willing to weld on the extra bosses needed, but I need to supply them in aluminum.

I have no idea where to start on that. But that being said, I know (thank you for the info) need the vent, pressure adjuster, solenoid valve. Do I really need the fuel level sensor, or can I ace that?

More importantly, does anyone have an idea on where I could find a supply of aluminum bosses? I figure the only one he would need is the fuel pressure adjuster. He should have the usual petcock size.

Thank you!!

If the tank is set-up w/petcock fitting on each side(like carbs). You gut the screens & tubes, drill out the center so fuel flows more and use one petcock for out and one for in. Find an aluminum barb at hardware store to use for vent. OR find fittings that screw on where petcocks go.

Brilliant!
So it wouldn't matter that the pressure adjuster would be located at the bottom of the tank vs where it sits now at the top?
