I recently noticed a strange sound coming from my front wheel. I found that the front brake disc has worked loose at the " floating" links. I can easily move it ~1/16" by hand. It rattles when moved in the garage. God looks out for fools...

I have had many bikes over the years (including 4 Guzzi's)and never had this problem before.
The Stelvio is grounded until I can replace the disc...
My question is what would cause this?

I fear I my have caused my own issue. A few weeks ago I got tired of the leaking spokes and did a ham fisted repair. I removed the tires by hand, without the proper tools, and coated the inside of the rims with moisture cure polyurethane. I wrestled with the rim for some time often at odd angles.
I inspected the rims before taking them to the bike shop for new tires, all was good including tight, straight discs.

Any ideas?
I would like to prevent A repeat.

Thanks

A full floating disk will make that sound new. I'm not sure what the wear tolerance is on the Guzzi disk, but Todd has excellent replacement disk at the Store tab. Also I don't think I would use that shop again for tire replacement. If the disk was tight when you took it to them, it doesn't bode well for their work that one is rattling now.

Mr. Zibell, you were right again...
I sourced a used disc and replaced the dangerous old disc. A short test ride indicated another failure. I then checked the parts list and learned that I am missing a spacer. Searched my work shop to no avail. I have to ASSume that the shop popped it out while installing the new tire and I didn't notice. Shame on both of us.
Lesson learned, again

Well that warrants a return visit to the shop. I'd be asking the mechanic if he would like t return that spacer he found on the floor & has been scratching his head over.
I turned a wrench for a good number of years. I would have been on the phone to you so fast it wouldn't have been funny. Never like getting "come backs" for work done wrong. Just saying.
