Hello, All.
I found this under my California Touring. I can't find it on any parts drawing in the manual, nor can I find an empty nipple under the engine. It is very degraded and fell apart easily when handled.
Its hard to understand why there would be a tube with a cap on it.
Any wisdom to share out there?

Might look like a hose is there, but you have the rest. When you put in too much oil in it ends up in that hose, that's why the cap. So it won't end up on your tire. Might need a mirror slid under bike to find out where the rest is.

"Airbox Breather". And it is definitely toasted!
 
My 2014 breather (at 18,000 or so miles) appears to be barely used. I live and ride in Texas, where summer temps regularly top 100F for a third of the year. FWIW... ;-)

+1, mine has done 32000Km and is as clean as a whistle.

The inside of that tube looks very black, as if the oil had fried. Was the correct grade of oil (10W60) used in previous services? Is there damage to the air box and filter as well or did it just happen to come into contact with something hot like an exhaust. I'm still trying to think what might have caused it to split like that.

The plug is supposed to be removed and the pipe drained periodically, particularly after a fresh oil change where the risk of overfilling is very real. Check the colour of the oil after a few hundred miles, might be worth an engine flush next time.
