I purchased a new-to-me 2006 Breva 1100 last November. Since I already own a pair of MG badged H-B Juniors, I decided that I would buy and install some H-B pannier racks and use the bags. It was finally warm in Chicagoland today, so I spent some quality time in my detached, unheated garage installing the frames. My college level German is a bit rusty after 40 years, but with the photos included in the directions, I worked out what went where. My first surprise was that not all of the washers were included. Oh well, just washers - I can deal with that. Then I noticed that the foot peg portion of the H-B brackets would beed some remedial bending. I'm less that excited about that, but I had read about the possibility on either this forum or Wild Guzzi. The final blow came when I realized that the top two holes in the H-B rack (on both sides) do not align with the mounting points on the Breva.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I have installed H-B brackets on three other bikes - two Triumphs and one MuZ. Those brackets all fit. What's up with H-B and Guzzi?

When I installed the HB Brackets on my 1100 Breva, the top mounts were close enough. Just a slight tweak did the job. They did require considerable adjustment to mount correctly to the foot peg brackets. Hepco Becker could definitely improve the fixture these brackets are produced against.

I suggest you also replace the mounting bolts with some of known quality. My experience of the bolts supplied was less than satisfactory on more than one occasion.

I had a problem when I fitted new HB frames to my Breva 1100 as the right hand side frame would not align with the bike's mounting holes. On examination, the holes in the right hand frame were seen to be in a different position to those of the left hand one. The supplier (in UK) replaced the right hand frame. I decided to make very slight adjustments to the frames so that there was minimal mismatch with the mounting holes on the machine. The fitting points on the Breva were spot on.

Incidentally, I prefer top loading panniers so I made some adaptors to enable Givi panniers to be fitted to the HB frames.

Cheers, Mick.

After years of riding Morinis and Guzzis (plus a few Ducatis), I have learned to expect this level of accuracy from the Italian after market companies, but not the Geman ones.

I am discussing the issues with the US Hepco Becker importer. At lease they should be aware of the problems. However, since this sounds like a somewhat typical issue, I fully expect to have to tweak my racks in order to fit them.

I didn't have any issue when I put HB racks on my B1100, for what it's worth. Great bike, if its set up right! I'm in Oswego, you should make it a point to come out to the Dekalb Guzzi breakfast the first Sat of each month, 9am Junction Restaurant Rt 38.

The importer did send me a different bracket set to try. While not a perfect fit, this set was persuaded to bolt on to the Breva. Once I get out the blue Loctite and remount them, I will be good to go.

Back in the day (before I had a child), I used to come to the Junction for the Guzzi Breakfast. That's when I rode a G5 and then a MuZ Skorpion Tour. I fell out of attendance when I became a father. I still rode (a Ducati, a BMW, a string of Triumphs, even a Buell Blast), but never made it to Dekalb. Since I will become the father of a college student in the fall, I need to consider coming to the breakfast once again.
