Hi,
My first post as member joined today. I am from Norway so please forgive any spelling mistakes..
I was supprised/disappointed that the panniers have to come off to be able to adjust the preload on the rear shocks :(
Started checking the web for replacement options more of the type used on the Custom Version, but no success.

Then I made a tool using a 5 mm aluminum bar and copied the latch section of the original adjuster tool. And made a 1/2" square hole to fit normal extension bar found in any pipe tool sets. (I am using 2 extension bars to get the right lenght, but if you just clears the pannier tops you're fine.)

Works like a dream and just flip the tool when moving from side to side or up or Down on preload. See Pictures.

Wonderful idea. I was surprised when you said from top as looking at the pictures I initially thought from bottom. I think I have a job for a friend who is a machinist. I think I'll use tool steel instead of aluminum though.
With a lot of trying I had managed to adjust the right side with the bag on but the left had to come off. My personal opinion is he best adjustment to the OEM shocks is in the recycle bin and something else on there. Just don't have almost $2,000 to throw at them right now.
 
Thanks for the great first post Ove, and welcome to the Forum... and more so congrats on the Cal 1400T.

The Tour has worse then average shocks, which are a big step below the Customs (marginally so though), and the remote reservoirs won't work with the factory bags any way. I'm working on some affordable solutions to hopefully be able to offer in another week or so. I'll post under a new heading when they are, however the Matris offerings will be shipping next week. I have one of each of everything coming so I'll post when I get them fitted and tested.

I wonder how Guzzi can offer what appears to be the same bags as on the Tour for the Custom. I was looking at mine the other days while changing my tire and there does appear to be almost no room for a remote reservoir.

I'll be watching to see what you come up with in alternative shocks as I really dislike the originals.

Our friend Jeff H here tried to put the Tour bags on his custom, and they wouldn't fit because of the reservoirs. Nothing was stated that they wouldn't when ordering.
I'll post on the new shock offerings next week.
 
As of today it's still available,on sale for $4.99. The circumference was different then the stock wrench so it would not grab. I used the stock wrench as a template, traced the inside circumference and ground it out with a grinder.
It works fine with a 3/8" socket extension.
 
I was just looking at the CycleGear website and the Stockton tool is still there. One of the reviews stated they found the tool weak, with the corners tearing as they used it. Anyone who has this tool and used it, could you comment on it's build quality please?
 
I've used mine maybe 4 or 5 times to adjust for two up riding,usually it's set for one up riding. It still works fine.
 
A real tool specialist should have no trouble getting you the CORRECT tool for this. There are at least four sizes I can recall. Many older British bikes and cars used the ring adjustment preload mechanism on a number of parts. And not just shocks...
