2V 12 Sport - noise under engine braking, like a bearing

So, I bought this Black 06/07 1200 Sport back in May with 18000 miles and everything has been great, especially when I put new tyres on her...but 4000 odd miles later and under engine braking I'm getting a noise like a worn bearing. When I clutch the noise disappears. On a neutral throttle, also no noise (that I can hear)...but noise comes in as soon as I ease the throttle off slightly. I think it's noisier in the higher gears, if that means anything.

I've been told the clutch when idling rattles a bit...not sure if this is related or not.

Anyone any ideas what the issue might be? I'm not a mechanic but I'm not afraid of a spanner...so I'm tempted to start dismantling from the final drive and work my way to the gearbox and clutch. But if there's any tests I can carry out to pin-point the issue, I'd be grateful for your help.

Thanks,

Colly

Start by changing the fluids in the CARC and gearbox. Check for metal contamination. If you can get oil samples to an oil analysis lab, they can also do a more thorough job of checking for metal. Be sure to keep the oils separate so you can isolate the unit that needs attention.

I've heard of people complaining about noisy huggers. My fibreglass hugger (whose brand escapes me for the moment) just sits there and quietly goes about keeping the back end of my bike clean....
I would think that a hugger would be noisy regardless of engine load.

Not so, it depends on many factors.
