Hi,
Only have about 5K5 kms on the bike & recently did a valve check & TBS.
Today I serviced the relay arm, swing arm & drive splines.

The Italians have followed Yamaha & Hinckley factory policies and decided not to use grease.

One universal was seized on the middle gear, a bit of bugger to get off.
The needle rollers were all dry, was some damage on the bearing collars.

Learnt a quick lesson, that the needle rollers are not held within the cage, 52 pick up sticks, lol lol.
The tapered rollers were totally dry and "tinkering".

Can say that the bike is better than new, about 4 hours on my first attempt.

When I do these I only push the inner a little less than half way to grease, then repeat on the other side. The little area in the middle will get grease from migration. Prevents playing 52 pickup.

LOL, only have to once to learn a lesson.
I was used to the relay arms on FJR's, they have some type of wax material that hold the needles in place.

Once again, thanks for all the info on the Forum.

Thanks for the interesting (but dismaying) information and pics - some things never change in Mandello apparently. Can you clarify mileage (is that 55,000 km?) and what year bike you have?

Hi,
The bike is a 2012 NTX with only 5500 kms on it, all on road.
Hoping soon to take it on a few longer adventures.

Pro-Honda Moly 60 Paste is the product of choice for the splines and needle bearings.

That's a bloody good tip - wish I'd thought of that when I did my Caponord, but will definitely do it when I attack the Stelvio
