Hella Bar-end Signals on a 1200 Sport?

I found a source for Hella bar-end signals, as found on /2 BMWs from the 1960s. They have both front and rear lenses, and carry a 12V 18 watt bulb.
Is there any reason these wouldn't be a direct install on my '08 1200 Sport? The stock signal lights carry 10 watt bulbs.

Thanks!

Deryl

Hi Deryl, none whatsoever. However you will be responsible for rerouting the wires from the existing outlets (from memory, aren't the BMW ones run in with external wires?) through appropriate cabling to the bar-ends. I would stick with a 10 W bulb (or even go LEDs) as we are all familiar with Italian electrics. Not sure if this is permissible though, in any jurisdiction due to the varying design rules for motor vehicles and their application/tolerance.

If you were to get some 2 core/with a nice black sheath, the correct plugs for the connectors in the original location it would look quite good, I think

The difference in current draw between a 10W and 18W signal light is not significant. You probably can get away using the supplied globe.

If the bar end signals you found are true Hella, they will have two wires from each signal (+ve and ground). If they are Emgo knockoffs, then they will have one wire (+ve) Ground on an Emgo is obtained through the case, which means you have to rig a reliable ground to the handlebars. What I did on my BMW K75 was to use a short jumper wire between the mounting bolt on the handlebar clamp and the ground connection under the tank. The wire was a simple 18GA stranded with ring connectors on each end of the proper size. You'll also have to have an exit hole on the handlebars for the two signal wires to emerge. Don't know if your Guzzi has that already. Make sure the exit hole faces down so rain does not run into the inside of the handlebars.
