Avon tires

Well it actually looks fine and I would rather run a radial, thanks for the input...Mike

Hi Mike
I just checked out the Avon storms you mentioned.
I didnt realize they are Radials and available in the sizes you mentioned.
So they would probably be a good choice aswell.
Please let us know your choice and opinion.

I will, but it will be towards the end of summer, I'll be doing a 3 - 4000 mi trip to South Dakota (very little freeway) in July and that will finish off what I have on now...Mike

Shrek, was there any particular reason why you went with a dual sport rear vs the angel gt rear?

Only because i could get that tyre really cheap.$90
I also have a Pirrelli scorpin 150/70/17 for $100 ready to go on next.
Clearing out older models/stock i would guess.
Angels retail for about $250 Au.

I was also only looking for a 140 at that stage as thats the size it had on.
I am confident a 150 will fit and work well now.

Thanks, took a good look at my front lazertec at it wont last 4000 mi, so will replace both before my trip either with the Angel GT or Avon Storms.

4000 miles is one huge trip.
I have never got more than 5000km out of any rear x ply and 6000 from a front.3500-4000 miles.
I do mainly ride fast around mountain roads with lots of corners though.
So i was wondering how you could do that trip on worn tyres.
Both good choices for long milage i would think.

The Bridestone BW rear on the Cali has done 3000 km.It has only worn about 1.5-2mm and has 4mm left.
Will go well past 5000km,so i am very impressed thus far.

it always amazes me when people report getting 3 to 4 times the life on the same tire I am using. I too run at a fair but safe pace on mountain roads. I have fun all the time and I can only assume they aren't.

Hi Vagrant
It amazes me too.
I think heat kills tyres.Higher speeds, accelleration and cornering forces raise temperatures.
I think everybodies idea of fun varies and not every body has access to twisty roads or enjoys them as much as others.
I guess if you ride on long straight trips at lower speeds you could expect longer tyre life.
But it still amazes me.

Another variable to tire life is composition of the pavement. I would get twice the mileage on tires in Alabama compared to a friend in Kansas with the same bike, tires, and riding style. Pavement mix requirements vary from state to state, and even country to country.
