No more D205's? Any suggestions?

I've noticed that Dunlop is phasing out the D205's and I'm having trouble deciding which tire to trust next on my Stone. I'm an aggressive rider (Hi Todd E!) and never doubted the 205's stickiness.

Michelin's Pilot road 2 looks like a good choice but I'm wondering if the 150 will fit on the rear. Stock tire sizes are 110/80-18 and 140/80-17, and it's pretty tight in the rear already.

Any suggestions appreciated,
Thanks,
Marcus

Marcus,

I'm surprised the Stone handles well with radials. If you have a round tube rear swing arm vs. the rectangular type (2003 EV and newer) I don't think the 150 will fit.

The Tonti frame is better suited to bias tires. On my Tonti frame bikes (EVs) I've had good luck with Bridgestone BT 45s. When I want to get aggressive, I just lower my tire pressure 2-4 PSI so the tires would get hotter, thus stickier. I still use them on my MK V LeMans with good results.

I'm with you the 205 radials were the best handling tires I've had on my 02 cal SS, I figure todd can suggest the next best thing, but I will miss those suckers. I went through many sets and they were the best, dont know why some folks back east thought the bike would spit them off if they left the driveway, I found all of em great handlers and fair mileage

Agreed Jon, the 205's were the most surefooted skins I've had on that bike. I've put 70,000 hard miles through several sets and they never let me down.

I was a bit apprehensive at throwing radials on the bike at first, but after the change I started thinking the whole radial vs bias was bunk as long as the tires matched.

From my racing days I dont think I can ever bring myself to trust a set of Bridgestones, had a few bad experiences on their tires. Always been a Dunlop guy but Michelin is a strong 2nd.

In Australia the majority of Tonti owners use Bridgestones. I must admit I too was a sceptic when it comes to Bridgstone however I bought a MKV with them on & so far so good. In saying all this I have been a fairly staunch Avon Venon fan as I have used them on other bikes. I will try the Venoms out on the MK V once it's ready to be re-shod.

Thought I would dredge up this old thread to see what the former radial guys were doing now. Since upgrading the suspension on my California, I thought I would try a set.

So, has anyone found a radial that worked as well as the Dunlop?
