Got 2003 Calif. Aluminum that starts missing or running rough like it's hit a rev limiter. I've opened up the airbox lid and installed K&N air filter. Then installed a H-pipe and hi flow shorty muffler. The bike runs great and pulls smoothly in 3rd gear at 1500 rpm. Just starts cutting out at 6000 rpm. Was wondering if anyone else has had this happen or any ideas how to overcome it???

Did it cut out at 6,000 RPM before you made those changes? If not, you have changed enough that the ECU needs help as Todd has suggested.

Thanks John. Correct it did not do this until I made the modifications. I first altered the airbox with no change to exhaust. Bike would get to about 5500 rpm and shut down completely. If it sat for a few minutes and would run perfect until 5500rpm's. Put on H-Pipe and more open freer flowing mufflers and would get to about 5 to 5.5 rpm and start running like only one cylinder was working. Figured I still more open exhaust so I not have a couple shorty's on it. Runs great until between 6 and 6.5 rpm then acts like it's missing. It's not something I couldn't live with and adjust shifting but it's just not right and irritates me. I'm going to investigate getting a PCIII or re-flashing ECU. Just not sure yet as to what as I don't have a dealer near me in Minnesota but at least I'm getting good advice at this time.
Thank you,
Fritz

Are all Dynojet Power Commander III the same or are they bike specific??

Bike specific. Best to get it from Todd (the store on this site). Other option until you want to go for the PC route is to return to stock configuration. As lean as you are running now you could be causing engine damage.

Thanks John. I will be taking care of this in near future. Now to tell you something about my mechanical abilities. Until I retired if something were wrong with my bikes I would bring them to a shop to get fixed. I've driven Triumphs mostly and haven't had one that needed much since the 60's. In other words I've did nothing other than oil changes for years. Well as this is my first Guzzi and I'm retired I do most of the work or try. Well when I was looking at my workshop manual today I thought crap I think I put the ECU in backwards last year. Out to my garage and sure enough I had. I corrected that and reattached it. I then started bike and then revved it up to red line without a problem. In a couple days the weather should be good enough to get it out and see what it's like on the road. If it's ok I'll be happy but I will get the running lean taken care of as you suggested. Thanks

gfritzmeier, I highly recommend the PC-V with autotune and ECU reflash from Todd. My '07 CalVin runs awesome. I had some problems with the install and Todd walked me through it. To get the tuning just right he hooked up to my computer via internet. He did a super job for me and I highly recommend him, and no, he's not paying me.

Got the PCIII easy install because of Todd. Went on ride last Sat. and after turning onto highway I hit the bike hard to catch up and got to about 6000 rpm the bike just quit altogether. While stopped in neutral it ran great but stalled every time I put in gear it stalled. I figured it had to do with the side stand switch and did want to get back on the road so I clipped the wire to the switch and tied the two wires together and my bike has never run better. I may or may not put on a new switch. The funny thing is I've made small changes to the bike to correct this and nothing helped but boy does it run sweet now. I wouldn't change a thing.
