Help please w Valve Adjustment on 2007 Griso

Don't hoot me off the board for this, but a similar ticking drove me crazy one time.

Wayne Orwig suggested I check to ensure header pipe snugged down properly.

I doubted that.

I was wrong.

That's what it was.

So ... hope it's something that simple.

I will take another look. A cursory google search shows that a ill-fitted pipe could be a culprit in motorcycles writ large.

Adjusting the valves on a 2 valve Guzzi is about as easy as adjusting valves gets. But it is not fool proof.
I am not sure if this is where the OP's train jumped the tracks, but I would add in addition to all that is here about adjusting valves; Turn the engine over by hand to find TDC. Only turn the engine in the normal direction of rotation. If you go past TDC keeping turning in that direction, you will get back to TDC again. Only turn the engine over by hand. Do not use the starter motor to spin the engine looking for TDC. Once you pull a spark plug from each cylinder the motor is easy to turn by hand. If you have a service stand so you can raise the rear wheel off the ground an easy way to spin the motor looking for TDC is to put it in gear and rotate the rear wheel in the normal direction of travel. That makes it easy to only spin the motor the correct direction.
If you don't feel comfortable working on your motorcycle, by all means pay someone more qualified to do so. Another option is look for someone local who has more experience than you to help you learn. A Guzzi is pretty easy to work on, and adjusting the valves on a 2 valve Guzzi is as easy as it gets. But it is not something that can't go wrong if you don't know what you are doing. Motorcycles are complex machines that require things to be right or they go wrong.
 
Sorry man, hope it all works out. I am due for a valve adjust on my 2V Griso soon. On the 8V motor, the timing and which TDC is tricky. I adjusted my valves and ended up with teh intakes being WAY loose because I THOUGHT I was at TDC, but wasn't. I diddnt use a straw or pull the inspection plug thing because I thought it was simple. Rotated motor (plugs out) a few times to get valve action cycled to where the intakes and exhausts were both closed and were, but there was some intake action. Sorry you had this happen.

Where in NOVA/DC are you? I was in Alexandria for 5 years, am in the OTHER Washington now, will prob move back in 2018.

I am in Arlington. Lucky you that you're there in WA. Great riding up there.
All worked out! Thank you. Took a couple of goes, but I got it.
Issue was wrong TDC, leading to a rod getting loose and valve getting bent, leading to no compression, leading to me taking of head and replacing valve. (Lappped and properly reinstalled) Now the engine runs like a champ. There is a vibration in the footpegs which I am trying to troubleshoot, but more cautious now.
