Hey all,

Wondering if anyone out there has changed from stock custom seat to the touring seat, and can report on differences...? Particularly interested in overall comfort difference, any change in foam, as the custom is on the mushy side, and, very importantly for me, is there any difference in the fore/aft positioning of the lumbar support? With custom bars, plus riser which does pull the bars back somewhat, I can't get back into the lumbar support, the reach is simply too far. Looking at approaching the ergo issue, for me, from the seat standpoint before considering the whole conversion-to-touring-bar investment/change. Any wisdom greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I suggest you find someone with a Touring model and ask to sit on it. I have a touring seat to fit my Custom, but I've never used it in anger. It has been repacked with firmer foam before I purchased it, but I think the differences are all for the pillion passenger.

Surely the custom bars plus riser pulling the bars back for you would make it easier to get back into the lumbar support? What am I getting wrong here?

Lou,

I have the Touring seat on my Custom. It was on there when I bought the previous owner had purchased the Touring seat. I have, just yesterday, put the Custom seat on to feel if there is any difference. Since I haven't ridden yet with this change I really can't provide a "seat-of-the-pants" opinion.

Lou, I have used 3 different seats so far. I have not tried the custom seat as I have a touring model. The touring seat that came with the bike, I did not like as previous noted the support was too far back and the seat was too soft for long rides. I then tried the lowered gel seat, it was an improvement in comfort, I still have this seat an used it when riding with passenger. I had the stock seat modified by Richscustomseats in Washington state. I am very impressed with the seat, it' puts me in a more forward seated position, due to short inseam, and the seat is hard for longer rides.

Lou,

UPDATE: I rode the Custom seat today and didn't notice any significant difference (besides appearance) between the two. When looking at both seats setting together on the workbench there doesn't appear to be any difference in the driver's seat section.

I have the leather touring seat.
Harder, and mutch more backsupport than the costumseat.
Pity, the leather is rather delicate; the cover accesory is not waterproof.

What did the modifications cost you?

I've been using the Touring Gel seat, p/n 2S000063 and find it reasonably comfortable and like the all black look better. I spent little time on the stock seat so I can't contrast the two well but the first couple of rides on the Touring Gel seat was not great. After the first few rides it has been pretty good.

Rarely do OEM gel seats work for me. I usually have a custom saddle made. An Airhawk cushion is a pretty good option for me with bikes I may not keep long and don't want to go through the time and expense of a custom seat.
