Owners Manual and Shop Manual vs Parts Diagram and Actual Blown Bulb

So...re my 2013 Norge, the left high beam burned out so I pulled it noting it's a 12V-55W H1 which is consistent with the Harper's parts diagram. However, the owners manual and shop manual both call for a 12V-65W H1 for high beam. BTW, the parts diagram, owners manual and shop manual are all consistent re the low beam at 12V-55W H3. Also, I haven't yet pulled the right side bulb to check it's specs but plan to replace it regardless when I replace the left side.

I'm of the opinion that the owners manual and shop manual overrule the part's diagram since I'm not convinced the parts diagram is authoritative given the source.

Any thoughts?

I have noticed these discrepancies before and was holding off ordering any new bulbs for my 2012 Norge till I pulled the originals and verified the actual bulbs. When you have done this I would appreciate a posting here of actual fitment. I plan on replacing mine with LEDs or HID for a bit more light. Leaning towards LED for less heat.

Pull what you have, replace with same. Most likely the selection is what's left in the bin at the time, on the assembly line...

Have you ever seen a 12v 65w H1 bulb? Try buying one.

It's a typo.

Regarding replacing with LED, unless you are very lucky to find an extremely well designed one, you will be far worse off. The reflector and projector lights are designed for a pinpoint filament, not an array of SMD devices.
I would suggest you try the Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited bulb, same fitting and wattage as the original, but almost twice the light output.

Thanks all. I did try looking for 65W without success.
Osram make a 100w H1 for off road use only

I do not recommend using anything except the OEM wattage in a Norge headlight. Too much heat will melt the plastic. Some 55W bulbs are brighter than others due to better design and efficiency. I personally have used the Sylvania Ultra H4 and the Phillips Vision Plus H4 in my Honda Pacific Coast. Both are brighter than stock but the Phillips seemed to be good for one season (about 6,000 miles) so I switched to the Sylvania but I don't ride it much anymore so no real comparison on life.

Also you double the current in the wiring, which will almost certainly drop the voltage at the headlight. 1v drop causes something like 20% drop in light.
It doesn't take much to melt the plastic either.

Running a bulb with a higher colour temperature will always produce more light (and heat) at the expense of life duration. If the bulbs are hard to get at (and most are) then you might want to reconsider.

I tried a Sylania Silverstar H7 in my 1200 Sport once. Great light output, but I didn't care for the "bluer" light, as I felt it was harder to see the details in the road surface. It failed at the most inconvenient time, too.
