hi all

the manual of my 13 racer says that gearbox and final drive oil should be changed every 20000kms. is nt that a bit too long? i was thinking of changing them every 10000kms. the engine oil i m changing it after 5000, too much hot weather and traffic here. what are your views on these figures?
please note the figures are in kms not miles

thanks

The figures are conservative and non-worrisome to me.

The manufacturers who recommend them know that. They keep conservative recommendations because they have billions of dollars and reputations riding on the longevity of their products.

We're using modern high quality synthetics with excellent additive packages. We've got better materials and machining than ever before too with much less oil contamination from blow-by etc.

No I don't change my fluids early by time or miles.

thanks for your info ;)

best advice is often and with good quality oils....

do my engine every 1500 Miles, gearbox and bevel box every 3000 Miles

Running my carb fed v7 lump on Morris Super Sport V Twin 10w50, in the cold damp UK the 10w60 seems to come out with signs of condensation. Switching to the 10w50 seems to have stopped it.

I have my breathers running to the rear mud guard and the lack of mayo being spat out is quite noticeable on the 10w50

To put it into perspective, some modern gear oils, like the one Moto Guzzi recommends for the newer 6-sp V7 gearboxes, are specified for heavy duty truck and bus applications where the change interval is as long as 500,000 mi. So, I think you needn't worry.
