Hi all!

I am a new owner of a red 2015 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone...love the little beast so far...can't ride much as the weather doesn't seem to cooperate much the past few months...

Who knew BC Canada 2017 will snow this much...

and since only 70KM on her ODO (Long but not exciting story), I still need to get her ECU reflashed and first service done...

A bunch of you guys probably see my posts @ ADVRider :p

ANYWAY!...

As I was going thru the manual and the bike, I came to 2 problems:

  1. I can't seem to find the clutch lever gap adjustment. I am pretty sure the dealer had set it right as I rode her home not much issue except the notorious 1st to Neutral issue.

    I currently have the gap set @ ~3mm...but I keep on finding different info...

  2. The manual said make sure the brake pedal 4mm (0.160") of free play by the lever...

    what free play??? My lever moves down by almost 1/2" before it will start braking and another 1/4" or so before the lights come on?

    Anyone wanna enlightenment what free play is the book talking about???
Anyone wanna help a brotha out? Pictures and/or Videos would be AWESOME...:p

either way, here is my bike (yes, i love spamming her pictures...so pretty!)

And sorry if these questions have been asked before...a little direction would be nice if had.

Hi Timmy,

Welcome, you have good taste in bikes. Not so sure about it being a 'beast' though. Your bike will take you a lot of great rides without the traffic tickets -or at least less tickets than you'd get on a rice rocket.

1. The clutch lever gap adjust is on the cable where it meets the lever bracket. There is a lock wheel and the adjuster that the cable end sits in. Use pliers the break it loose.

2. The play, or slop, is the movement in the lever before it make contact with the master cylinder push or actuator rod.

Sometimes it helps to look at the parts book to see the systems isolated and various parts called out.

Thanks for the reply...I know she isn't a beast...but rather a domestic one heh...I came off a 03 Shadow 750 Cruiser...so V7 felt like a beast for me :p

  1. also guess I wasn't too clear on the clearance for clutch lever...I realize where it is, but just not sure how much of the gap should it be as manual says nothing.

  2. the movement? Isn't the brake pedal connected to master cylinder rod...maybe I am not understanding this correctly...
Sorry if this sounds noobish...fairly new @ this bike maintence thing...:p

I would hold closer to 2mm on the clutch lever gap, but the more important one is to make sure the arm on the back for the trans has some slack too, see; https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/v7-ii-owners-advisory-on-clutch.16098/page-2

The rear brake is non adjustable, if there is any issues, the system likely needs bled. Keep an eye on the color and level of rear brake fluid. It should be changed every service or once a year for cold climates.

Post again often, and spend some time looking and around. The search engine here works pretty well.
 
Hi Todd,

So far there isn't any issues with the rear brake but rather I find its resting position a bit high for my toe...was hoping there is a way to lower it....then I came across the "4mm slack" which doesn't make any sense to me tbh.

now for the clutch, I keep on reading this "arm" on the clutch engine side for my V7, but I just can't see it...am I blind or just simply looking @ the wrong spot????

I traced my clutch cable to here in the photo on the Brake Pedal Side of the bike...and I am lost after that. Is that "arm" further back?

OK, I now see you have a V7, not V7 II. At the end of the cable is an adjuster arm. Try a search here.
 
I took a video of my brake lever position...



Is my lever too loose then????? Or I am simply fooled by the 4mm free play from the manual...
 
That may be more of air in the line unless you have a brand new bike. I honestly wouldn't touch the adjuster arm/shaft. I've ever had to touch one to date.
 
ya, it is pretty much a brand new bike as the super low millage although I am the 3rd owner and the bike did sit for about a year before I took over.

as for touching the lever...well, a tad late now as I was trying to figure out the 4mm part...:(

Guess I can try to bleed the brake and see if that changes anything :wondering:
