When I bought my California, the previous owner had installed Mistral Carbon Mufflers. While I like these because they are so much lighter than the OEM mufflers, they are too much noise for me on long rides.

They do run cool compared to the OEM mufflers but I am thinking about removing that catalyst in the stock ones in hopes of cooling things down somewhat. Who knows, maybe I can sell the Mistrals to help finance Todd's fueling solution, which I understand also can cool the beast.

Mistral carbon fiber slip-on muffler set for all versions of California 1400. Large diameter, real carbon fiber mufflers sound great, weigh less, and look great, seamlessly integrating into original exhaust system. No modifications required, simply install and ride. Polished stainless steel end caps.

Mistral exhaust components are top quality products designed and built by craftsmen in the city of Mandello del Lario, which is the home town of Moto Guzzi motorcycles. The sound produced by Guzzis running Mistral products is the classic Guzzi sound of Mandello. Mistral mufflers are Europe's top-selling performance exhaust for Moto Guzzi motorcycles. The company name is taken from the name of a powerful wind that blows across Europe and into the Mediterranean. Mistral is the name of the powerful wind. The Mistral mufflers sold here at MG Cycle all come equipped with removable “db killers” which are secondary internal baffles located at the rear of the muffler that are held in place with a small screw. Most people run their Mistrals with the db killers removed in order to obtain the fullest sound. However, the choice is yours to make and you are encouraged to experiment to determine your preference.

I have these mufflers on one of my California Customs. I like them, and don't find them excessive loud.

Guzzitech's GT-Rx® California 1400 Full Stainless Exhaust System versions are much louder, but also offer greater performance according to the Dyno.

I've had carbon Misrals since new - 6,000 mi. Look great and sound great too. Even with db killers in they were still a little loud for me. I ordered Moose Racing muffler packing and wrapped it around the db killers held in place with supplied SS zip ties. Used screw driver to open up holes in db killers. Worked great. Mellowed out the sound to the level I like.

I have carbon Mistrals on my California and I'm kind of split on whether they're loud or not. Sometimes I wish they were quieter at slow speeds since take offs and engine braking at slow speeds can get pretty loud. Out on the freeway however it's a whole different story - barely any noise to be heard at cruising speeds, maybe a very subdued "bruff bruff" every now and then, just to make you wish you heard some more :)

All in all I'm very satisfied with the exhausts, and haven't noticed any damage due to vibration like mentioned on AF1 store site.

I think that was speculation on their part. I didn't have mine on very long, but it seems that the shaking (I wouldn't call it vibration) shouldn't be an issue.

I've had a pair of stainless Mistrals on for a little over a year now. No issues. A little loud around town, but love them on the highway...

Friend and I were riding the other day and he was recording on his Sena BT helmet device so I thought people might be interested in hearing what Mistrals sound like during a regular city ride:
