V9 Bobber new owner, early impressions.

Valve clearance is checked at every service interval. Only adjust if needed. Also it is easy using a screw and lock nut. Once the valve train settles in, less adjustment is needed, but do continue to check. This is pretty common on push rod twins such as Guzzi and BMW. Shim and bucket engines stay in tolerance longer, but adjustment is more involved. Be glad you didn't get the Ducati. Service for them with valve adjustment runs about $800.00 (USD)at many Ducati dealers in the US.
My 17 V9 Bobber has 176 miles on it. I was driving home from work last night and when i started to decelerate I noticed that my bike sounded like the motor was working too hard and rubber rubbing. At slow speeds it makes a grinding sound coming from what appears to be right under the seat. No smells or signs of problems on the exterior. Any idea what in the heck could be wrong with the new bike?

Also I've read quite a bit about the break in settings on the bike. Most of the reading is conflicting. I did read in the manual that the first 500 miles are restricted to 4200rpm's and increased to 7000 after first oil change and valve adjustment. Do you or anyone else know anything about this?
