Hi,

We had a hailstorm here the other day, which caused a fracture in the inner fairing aka dashboard cover. Between that and the paint issue on my fuel tank I'm really not having a lot of luck selling the bike in optimum conditions...

Official estimate for replacement is 2.5 hours work which doesn't surprise me, but maybe some owners (or mechanics) on here have figured out a clever, easier procedure? Is it absolutely necessary to remove the windscreen mounts, for instance?

And BTW, should I take the opportunity of this occasion to swap out my fuel tank too or is that something that doesn't require removing the inner fairing completely and is easy enough to do another time?

Thanks,
René

1. You do not need to do anything with the tank.
2. You need to remove the windscreen by only removing the four front screws.
3. To remove the dashboard, you actually have only 8 screws to remove.
4. The tricky part is the disconnecting of the main dash electric plug. There is not much room to maneuver under there.
I have not had to remove the gauge part from the dashboard, so I don't know how complicated that is.
Good luck,
Nick

ps.: What are you purchasing next?

My memory from the times that I had to change or adjust bulbs is that the inner fairing only comes off up to a certain point if you leave on the windscreen mounts. Note that I have the GT model, not the one with the motorised windscreen.

Does anyone know why you have to disconnect the dash (instrument cluster) at all if the fairing is not fixed to the instrument cluster?

There'll be no next purchase, a priori. I've almost completely lost the pleasure in riding and also don't have any need for it anymore. As a result, I just don't feel like bothering suiting up with the full ATGATT if I need to run an errand or something for which I'd take the bike before I had a car, and as a result of that I've hardly ridden at all during the last 4 years.
