I got home after a 20 minute ride in stop-start traffic yesterday, and found the right side panel was very warm, something I've never noticed before in 2,500 miles. Presumably the battery was heating up. I don't usually do short runs, nor ride in heavy traffic. Was it the nature of the ride, or something more fundamental?
 
Check the voltage regulator output and make sure it is not overcharging (and cooking) the battery.
 
How old is the battery? With age there can be additional resistance. Also check the charging voltage. Over voltage/charging can cause a battery to get hot.
 
The bike, and the battery, are just on a year old. There's a sticky about the 13-15 V7 overcharging. I'd hoped that it might have been sorted in the ll. Ah well, the bike's due for its service, so I'll try and get it in this week, and let Moto Strada check it out under the warranty.

Hi Mr Pootle, can Moto Strada still do warranty work? I heard they had stopped selling new Guzzi. Steve.
 
Hi, Steve. I spoke to Mark this morning to book the bike in, and told him about the problem. He commented that it was still under warranty, so presumably they're still authorised service agents. I'll find out and report back.
