Talk about heat gain from a 55W bulb in a small housing. These puppies get HOT. Just installed a set of yellow Hella Optiva H3 55w halogen bulbs in them and have been busy aiming them. Ouch my hand...

Initially I had a main fuse blow thanks to the Hella lamps and now one of the wires has snapped at the rubber cap. So, I thought bugger it and replaced them with LED's from Canadian Tire (think of it as a Canadian Halfords or PepBoys ) for $30. They connected up well and came with their own mounts. Very bright and have also dramatically lessened the vibrations through the bars as well.

Yeah, I really need to grab a set of those fused replacement wire leads for the Hella's that AF1 sells ready-made.

If you really must keep them on the crash-bars, I recommend this, yes. Best thing to do is to get them off the frequency-inducing-paint-shaker c-bars. I am working on a kit that moves them to a frame mount. I offer LED light options on the Store tab above.

.... and as of today I've got another bulb out in the Hella aux's. This was a new Hella yellow fog bulb less than probably 8 hours of operation old, maybe 9 or 10. Knew bulb life would be brief but wow.

Just going to leave the switch off until I see how the frame mounts under development look.

Just make sure you are still charging and didn't blow the 30 amp fuse. As long as they are switched off you are ok.

Other option is this.

Where I have aux lights mounted now:

Only needs a couple of spacers and some longer bolts. Mounts to the upper bolt on the front fender.

Where I had them previously:

This one just needs a couple of L-Brackets from Home Depot and properly drilled holes in them to line up with the fairing bolt holes on the bottom. Only reason I switched to the above was because I preferred the light pattern but this one worked perfectly fine. This one was more to see. The position above was more to be seen.

No. Just 4. I moved them from under the headlights to the fork legs. Was just showing both options.

I'm interested to see what Todd here unveils with regard to frame mounting a set of aux's. If I like the look, and how things look is pretty huge with me, then I may likely just remove the crash bars altogether since they seem to aggravate the harmonic vibration the engine produces @ 3600-4000 rpm.

When they are on the forks it give a triangular pattern to on coming traffic that stands out. When they were below the mains it just kind of blended in as a wide light. I put them on more to be seen then to see as the main headlights on the bike are already pretty good at night.

Also give the added benefit of additional lighting in a turn as they turn with the bike.

I took mine off today. The left has stopped working. The right had a broken mount but still turned on. Both showed signs of wear in the wiring. I think I am going to install highway pegs in that location and use the fork mount shown above for the fog lights. Might just try some cheapo leds to start.
