Tyres for Griso

P.S. Got 12500 ks on the pilot 4's. Still 3.5mils of tread left on both, though changed for the South Island tour.
Shop said they would hold the old tires for spares.

Just fitted some Michellin Road Pilot 5's to the griso.
Off to Queestown next week (3500ks), so will give my thoughts on return.
(Mid March).
New tires always feel great, though tires pumped to 34/36 (2 pounds above norm for RP4"s)and
felt very firm returning from shop in showery weather. (2hr ride)
Will add more next month.

Hi YM,
Can you tell me how the Road 5’s have worked out for you. My stock Metzelers that came with my 2017 Griso are almost done. Don’t ride 2 up much but do ride in all conditions and do lots of touring.

I have 70,000Kms on a Griso and the oem Metzelers were good but lasted 10,000 kms, the next set were Pilot Road 3's that were great wet and dry (20,000Kms) and the following tyres were Pilot Roads that were brilliant in the dry and surprisingly good in the wet (18000 Kms). Got a deal on Michelin 2CT's and they were good for 15000kms and now I have Pilot Road 5's which I love. I would avoid the wider tyre in the back as I think while it would look good it would make the handling a little different but then it depends on how much you push the bike.
I went to the Isle of Man in 1974 and was doing a hot lap on my MZ TS250 (what an anachronism that is!), but it was fitted with soft Michelin tyres and Girling shocks and an xl125 Honda that was alongside me at the Ramsay hairpin stop had Inoue knobby tyres and he rode circles around me especially on the tight corners, with pegs hitting down on an enduro bike, and it was only when we both stopped at the Sulby Glen hotel after most of the lap for a pint that I realized the rider was Alex George (won the Production TT on Slippery Sam). He could have passed me on flat tyres!
