My bike has about 2500 miles so far. Today while riding at lower rpm after a turn in 1 gear bike shut off? Turned key off and on and fired right up like nothing happened. Same thing within 5 miles. Restarted and no further problems. I'm not sure what happened. Will ride some more and see what happens. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Leo

Not sure if the 1400 has a tank vent one way valve, but if it does get rid of it.

That was going to be my suggestion too. It has one, follow the hose from the fuel tank (in front of the filler) down. Tank has to come off to be able to find it (I think from memory).

Remove the valve, and join the two hoses together. This should also get rid of the "moaning whale" if you have been hearing that after switch off.

Thanks, will try that and let you know. At least now I came banish the poltergeist from the garage.

Hi I am a new 2016 Audace owner. I have only 200 miles on the bike but the engine cuts out at speed for no apparent reason. It seems like a fuel issue ( I've run out of gas on previous bikes, so it seems familiar). Could it be a bad fuel pump or filter? I have checked the battery terminals and fuses. Would be grateful for some diagnostic tests. Thanks, and happy trails! Dicky

Hi Dicky,

New Audace owner myself. As others have mentioned, these and many newer bikes with the canister to treat tank vapors (emission controls) will not allow the tank to vent properly if hose is compromised or tank has been overfilled . If it can`t vent then it stops/restricts fuel flow. Think of holding finger your over the end of a straw dipped in water. It will not run out until you release the top. Does this happen after a fill up? The snorkle hole on the Audace tank is barely big enough to fit fuel dispenser so it is easy and tempting to keep filling until you can see gas at the neck.

Hmm, wow. Well I did top it off yesterday and it stalled repeatedly when I tried to start it up today. I managed to get it running and then it stalled a few more times on a 2 mile ride. Didn't want to strand myself, so I headed home. Yesterday it cut out after 4 miles just once, and then I rode for a total of 40 miles without a recurrence. I wouldn't want to invalidate my warranty, but is there a fix that comes to mind? I was thinking fuel pump, or maybe see if the key cylinder/key/chip might have a role...Thanks so much for the reply!!

No problem! This started happening a lot once the charcoal canisters went on and especially if tank fill was offset. People would fill up then stand the bike upright. No room for an air bubble and it would flood the canister with fuel. My buddy that worked at a Ducati dealership had a couple a week hooked in. I would try another ride with existing fuel, if it works fine you have your answer.

Riding your motorcycle will not invalidate the warranty, enjoy it.

On longer rides I regularly fill mine to just above the filler neck sqeezing in as much as I can and I've never had a problem with it cutting out. maybe the Americam emission set-up is different from the Aussie.

Here is my follow-up: After a few frustrating (but luckily, winter) months, I returned the bike to the dealer for warranty service, having captured the problem on video (I was concerned that they would not be able to duplicate the problem since it occurred sporadically, albeit with greater frequency over time). As it turns out, my bike had a defective tip-over sensor. They disconnected it and it ran fine, then replaced it altogether, and the problem has not recurred. Happy Trails!

According to Cali 1400 Workshop Manual - it's called a "Fall sensor" and it's on the RHS of the bike behind side panel. The illustration below shows it is #14.

Good to know, Paul. Thanks! Next time I ride past a Steam Roller, I will pull over, unplug #14 and place it in its path!

Ha ha - careful, it's probably Canbus enabled and the bike won't start if it's not present (or been crushed).

I happen to be working on the bike today and had the side panel off so took a photo. You can clearly see the arrow on the dongle pointing up between the two relay blocks (Hint: make sure you re-assemble this the right way up :sweating:)

Awesome, thanks! 100 miles yesterday with no issues ( Just 30 mpg seems a little WTF though).
