Does anyone know if the Small Luggage Rack (pn 2S000256) from the Moto Guzzi Accessories 2017 catalog is compatible with the V7 III Racer (assuming that you've removed the stock seat and replaced it with a dual seat)?

Preparing for some traveling this Spring and Summer: I've been test fitting my "U" bag on the Comfort Gel dual seat. The pillion seat section of the Gel Comfort Seat is a bit short to fit it properly, it needs a bit more support to sit on and lash to behind the seat. The Small Luggage Rack looks like it would do nicely, if it fits Racer with the dual seat installed.

thx in advance.

I can’t see why it wouldn’t. The bikes are identical outside of the exhaust hangers and seat.

Thanks. That's what I thought, until I saw this note on another vendor's site with their listing of the rack:

"Nice small rack for the Stornello but difficult to install on other V7s. For those, we recommend the longer rack, 2S000259."

I don't know why that would be ... I've sent a query asking them to explain what the difficulty might be.

Okay, the vendor responded to my query:

Although Piaggio technically lists that rack as fitting all V7s, it requires the aluminum rear fender & accessory license plate holder to mount properly. The Stornello has these accessories from the factory, which is why it’s significantly easier to mount the rack on the Stornello.

Hmm. That raises the price on this rack by almost $1200 (including painting the rack and the taillamp support). On the other hand, I was actually looking at those fenders and taillamp support for Racer already. Hmm hmm hmm.

Interesting.

That doesn't look like the same rack, though it's very similar. There's a bit missing compared to the Moto Guzzi PN 2S000256 Short Rack:

Moto guzzi accessories 2s000256

Which rack is that?

Ah! I found the rack you showed offered by Teo Lamers in The Netherlands (tlm-nijmegen on Ebay). It carries the same part number as the one in the Moto Guzzi accessories catalog, but looks different. Can you get these?

(I've done business in the past with Teo, even went to visit him somewhere around 1998... A good guy! :))

Okay: So I ordered the 2S000256 rack from Teo Lamers Moto Guzzi and it arrived yesterday. It is the Moto Guzzi part, minus the additional center bit shown in the photo I posted above.

As the other vendor said, it will take some additional work to fit it. The included instructions are specific to the models with the taillight support loop and aluminum fenders. The bolt holes in the frame ends are there, but on those bikes with the plastic fender, the fender's structure is in the way and doesn't allow access to two of the bolt holes. To fit it I will have to mark the plastic fender, remove it, and drill it (or otherwise relieve some material) to provide access to the frame's bolt holes and clearance for the forward bolt heads.

It's all doable, it's just not a simple 'bolt on' job as it would be if I were fitting the rack to a Stornello or Anniversario.

It does give me pause once again to consider the alloy fenders option. I like the way they look, but to do it properly is another $900 worth of parts and a couple hundred worth of paint work as well.

Quick question on this, I'm looking to add a rear rack to my stornello, but don't want it to be overly large and obtrusive. The small rack shown above is listed for the V7 3. Would it work on a V7 to? Specifically the stornelo. If I'm reading the above correctly it sounds like it will.

I glanced through the Stornello parts listing ... It looks to have the same taillight support loop setup as what the 2S000256 rack installation instructions detail, so it should fit right on. Can't promise anything, of course, but I don't think you'll have any problems.
