Does that mount for the top box seem sturdy enough for the passenger to actually lean back against it, especially under hard acceleration?View attachment 15531 I have turned my 2016 Eldorado into a "Caldorado" with Cali hard bags and MG top box. To get the top box on I went with a Hepco Becker rack without the back rest and mounted the top box platform directly to it. I started out with an MG touring saddle from the Cali model but ultimately replaced it with a touring saddle from Corbin (much better than the MG version). Sorry I don't have a better picture.
Thanks for the reply. Not to seem flippant, but the mount feels sturdy enough to use the top box as an anchor point to tow lesser motorcycles into the shop from wherever they broke down on the road!
The top box anchor plate is pretty large and supports the entire bottom of the top box. It has slots in it that can be lined up with the tubes of the HB rack, which itself is pretty sturdily mounted. I did line them up and then drilled three through holes through the tubes. Then I put three socket head screws with washers through the mounting plate and the rack tubes. I secured the whole shebang with aircraft (nyloc ?) nuts on the bottom. The mounting plate isn't going anywhere so unless the HB rack rips off, or the top box rips off the mounting plate (neither of which seems likely - the box feels very secure when mounted), a passenger should be able to lean against the pad on the box without fear.
I'm reminded in taking these pictures that I need to get slightly shorter screws.

Thanks for the reply.
My wife finds the passenger portion of my California Custom seat extremely uncomfortable.
I am considering getting the MG touring seat, and maybe the top box.

I am considering getting the MG touring seat, and maybe the top box. However, I REALLY don't want to spend the money to get those things, only to find out that she still is not comfortable on the bike. Especially since I don't like the look of a top box, and do not need one for the storage capacity.
I have been trying to convince her to get a new V7 for herself, but she doesn't want to spend the money on a bike that she really wouldn't ride very often.

There's nothing made that can't be broken.
