Hi all,

I'm keen to know how many of you have had the fix done and not. Recent owner of a Griso 09 and I'm a bit concerned about this potential issue. No recall has been issued for my bike, but I know some have done precautionary work on their machines. Let's see what the poll says.

I do not view this as a "potential" issue.

Good luck with getting yours done soon at the lowest cost.

And, to quibble a bit with the poll, not sure "recall" is quite right, at least as to mine and others that were out of warranty. As I had service history and damage, the factory paid for parts, and I paid for labor.

They will all fail if not fixed. The DLC coating breaks down and comes off guaranteed. Why do you think they needed a fix. If you have an 09 you may have tappets that don't spin, they were to be replaced w/new.

Just doing normal oil changes and adjusting valves at proper intervals will not stop the flat tappets from wearing down. So some think "I'm taking care of my bike, all is well", but no. And to really check it, you need to pull the cam boxes, pull out the tappets and look at them ... I think a dealer charges ~2 hours just for that inspection.

So a dealer doing a normal valve clearance check and adjustment is not going to see the wear area of the tappets.

I'm not sure what Moto Guzzi calls it ... not a "recall" in the US ... but in the US, when the tappet wear is detected, the dealer submits a case (not sure of exact wording here) to MG/Piaggio, of these cases I know of MG/P covered the parts and the owner paid the dealer the labor charges to do the work.

Also, some 2009's did have a recall, but at that point they replaced the original flat tappets parts with some updated flat tappet parts that still wear out. That was a recall ... but you still end up with flat tappets that wear out.

The poll I'd like to see ... who has flat tappets, has pulled the cam boxes and looked at the tappets, and they were fine? I'd place a small wager that number is zero.

Had the conversion done September 2018. It’s a 2007 8v 5500 miles and out of warranty. The bike had only the PDI in the service manual and I had 2 services at the local dealer since buying the bike second hand. There was slight damage and my local dealer managed to get Piaggio to supply the parts and I just paid for labour approx £420.

You dont need a poll, you need a cambox kit and roller tappet update, maybe even a dropping of the sump to see how much of your tappets and camshaft are there in the form of spooge..... How many miles on the bike? It's worth a shot to see if Piaggio will help at all, some have had the parts supplied by Piaggio and paid for labor, some the full job, but if its an 09, the question will be 'why did you wait so long'
